I recently read a book he did after his wife died, covering their lives together. A lovely bloke, a great film critic, a star with Morecambe & Wise, and of course a pickled onion magnate. We can gloss over his worship of Shirley Williams.

Imagine if the BBC had made such an error?
I'm sure the Daily Mail would be entirely reasonable and understanding about it. 
To make things worse, it seems that Barry Norman used to write for the DM, so they couldn't even get the correct picture of a former employee!

Can't add much to what's been said above, but Film ... programme was required viewing for me, he also appreciated modern as well as old films, RIP.

I think so many have tried to fill his shoes, but never quire made he same impact on the show as he did. RIP thoughts and prayers to all concerned

Barry Norman also made a great series of biographies called "Hollywood Greats". You can still find some of them on YouTube.
A great film critic and broadcaster.
