After first watching the Orville a couple of weeks ago at a friends i have continued to watch it since then with last nights episode Identity Part 1 and i was hooked by it and can not wait to watch the 2nd part i was Debating to buy the first season on dvd but after watching more episodes i am now ordering it right now as i type this. The Orville is a funny yet smart show which has had me hooked since i first watched it and has a great set of characters with Isaac and Bortus being my favourite so far

Ep 8 “Identity Part 1” Season 2
I was very interested in how the show would handle a handle a two parter Ep and so far there passing with flying colours. Issac has to return to his home world of Kaylon 1 what starts off as normal Ep soon turns into a very dark Ep especially with the reveal of his home world and there plans leaving the Ep to be concluded in part 2. You can tell they were very influenced by Star Trek The Next Generation and two part Ep “The Best of Both Worlds”. What I like about the show is it tells great stories with the right amount of humour and in a blink of a eye it can go light hearted to Dark in tone and that’s a very difficult thing to do and balance and the show pulls it off. Also it doesn’t shy away from difficult and controversial topics.

Ep 9 “Identity Part II” Season 2
Fantastic second part reminded me of The Best of Both Worlds two parter from Star Trek Next Generation the Battie of Wolf 359 with the Borg. It also reminded of the two part from DS9 season 4 The Way of a Warrior with the space battle. In parts the Ep was very dark on tone and a good ending too.

Ed has to participate in peace talks with Krill things became further complicated with a old friend of Gordon’s but it’s the twist with his old friends daughter that I never saw it coming and the true test of friendship and trust that prevails. Love how the show can go from comedy to being dark in a blink of a eye.
