The 01 number now would probably be 0207 but I never called because it was a lottery if you managed to get in. Loved the stars they had and the stuff they bought in that could be won by viewers and some of them were very generous, but if there was a single or album from a pop star the you knew it was a blatant plug for it.

I still remember B.A. Robertson on the "Swappy" as he called it. He was a sort of friend of the programme and he came on one day wearing a knitted jumper with all the presenters on it. You might remember him on the Scotland World Cup song that came out in 1982. I also remember one Saturday when Eric the globe that held the kids' competition cards was lowered down as usual but then snapped and hit the desk-everyone dived for cover!

Correct me if my dusty old memory is tricking me here but I do seem to recall B.A.Robertson (had big hair) appearing quite a few times on the programme? Almost something of a regular..?

Of course he was DOH!! he wrote the original Swap Shop theme and also collaborated on the hit single I Just Wanna Be A Winner which Noel, Maggie and Keith performed on as BROWN SAUCE - He also wrote the B-side Hello, Hello!

Noel Edmonds used his helicopter to fly Phil Collins to the airport where he flew to Philadelphia to perform not hours after he appeared on stage at Live Aid in 1985. Edmonds became a businessman and was the presenter of quiz show 'Deal or No Deal' and was last seen driving around Asia last year in a race with his wife as co-driver. Maggie Philbin left to become a reporter/presenter on Tomorrow's World. Keith Chegwin did his kids series 'Cheggers Plays Pop' and then went on to do other things including get a drink problem and get divorced from Maggie(RIP Keith, you are missed mate) and John Craven continued to oversee his Newsround programme and then left to go into the countryside and presenter Countryfile.

^And who could ever forget Keith Chegwin's appearance in the gameshow The Naked Jungle back in 2000 on C5.I just wanted an elephant to come on the jungle set eye up Keith & think 'how the hell does he feed himself with that little thing !'.That show scarred me for life. RIP Keith.
