An unexpected and sad loss. He was a great driver and I loved listening to his interviews because he said it as it was including swear words laugh

For anybody who hasn't seen the film Rush I would highly recommend it. It's about the historic tale between Niki Lauda and James Hunt.

I also saw the film based on his and Lauda's life RUSH-damn good if you ever get a chance to see it with Liam Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhel I think it was.

One film I'd always want to see.

I think James nomimated for a bravery award I believe at the time but he never accepted it, as he felt saving another racing driver was more important

Arturo Merzario pulled Lauda from the car assisted by Brett Lunger, Harald Ertl (both Lunger and Ertl's cars collided with Lauda's Ferrari) and Guy Edwards who was awarded the Queen's Galantry medal for his part.

At the time of the crash Hunt was well ahead of Lauda and arrived at the scene of the accident with most of the rest of the field who were unable to get past as the track was blocked.

As for Rush, it's loosely based on the Hunt / Lauda story at best. Lauda himself admitted that they used to go out drinking together in London and he often stayed with James at his flat. The incident where Hunt punches a Journalist in the movie is also believed to be fictitious. There are biographies of both Drivers which are much more interesting than the film.

I'm sure that wherever Racing Drivers go when they die, James Hunt welcomed Niki Lauda with a beer earlier today.

Rush is still a very good film in my opinion. Very sad news Niki Lauda has passed away & more than deserves the tributes he’s getting today
