Its like when you hear that one of the babeshow lasses is thinking of doing hardcore. You think "I'm sure you'll be great at it but are you definitely 100% sure that's the route you want to go down because once you make that decision there's no turning back"

I confess that I use one of those counter cutters but the little blighter rives chunks off the sides of the counters about half the time. The sooner they all start producing Laser cut counters (like Pavlov's House - got it but not played it) the better.

I did acquire the original Squad leader game on Ebay then I have to pay for a DVG's warfighter modern game. (The expansions in the WWII series include a undead pack!!)

I did toy with getting a counter clipper but feel I'd rather leave them intact bas they are.

If you get into Warfighter and ASL then that will be a few thousand scenarios to work your way through.
I've not tried a tactical game yet but I bought Confict of Heroes - Awakening the Bear (Academy Games) and it's solo expansion.

I think this thread might be a better fit in the hobby section.

I enjoyed playing VPG's Hell's Gate and it ended with a narrow german victory with many of their units breaking out of the pocket.
My first hex and counter game and I found it pretty easy to solo by playing both sides. On the negative side, like in the Iwo game, I found myself constantly totting up attack and defence factors to make sure I edged up to the next level on the CRT. This kind of spoils the immersion in the game and it probably is going to be a fixture in all games of this type.

Next on the Table is Escape Hell's Gate: The Korsun Pocket 1944
So another game on the same battle but at a different scale ie regiments and not divisions. This is by Decision Games and is the game in "World at War" magazine #57.
The game has avery low rating on BGG even for a magazine game from this publisher and some of the comments say that with the existing rules the game is broken ie with simple tactics the Russians can't be beaten.
The map and counters are attractive though so let's give it a go.
