^^ Bowlers will get rotated during this series & Pakistan to follow.
So it Yorkshire don't re-sign Ashwin next season, can we borrow Bess again if he loses his place to Ali & Leach ? Wink

Play didn't get underway until 2pm due to rain & bad light. After winning the toss England elected to bat & closed on 35-1 after Sibley was clean bowled by Gabriel for a duck before a run had been scored. Only 17.4 overs were bowled in the day, after numerous delays.

at least we got cricket back up and running something tells me it will be a shortened county season

Question remains : - what happens if a player from either side tests positive during the match?

Good start for West Indies, both overnight batsmen dismissed, gabriel taking all of the wickets to fall so far.
51-3 with Crawley & Stokes yet to score.

think its shown today what a mistake it was to bat with so much cloud on day one and two, the ball is moving very nicely from some good bowling, if its sunny as expected at the weeking think this game could be the windies

^^ Yes, now looking like a bad decision with the toss, cloud cover plays a big part in England, & with better weather over he weekend West Indies have a chance to put pressure on England here.
After a 6th wicket partnership of 67 between Stokes & Butler which was rescuing England, the dismissal of Stokes has seen 3 wickets fall for 3 runs. Holder has taken 5 wickets now.

Dom Bess is replicating the batting ability that he showed when he made a half century on debut, taking England past 200.
Now 204 all out in 67.3 overs. Captain Stokes top scored with 43, Bess 31 not out. Holder finishing with 6-42, who is the No.1 ranked Test Match Allrounder.

West Indies did well with the reviews and took 3 wickets that way.

Campbell was given out 3 times all off Anderson's bowling, lucky for Jimmy, the 3rd review was overturned. Under the new Covid playing laws each team are allowed 3 reviews, due to the use of home (non neutral) umpires, which has been brought as it would mean umpires from other countries travelling here.

Close Day WI 57-1 trail England 204 All Out by 147 runs

On Test Match Special today, Michael Vaughan said that he had bumped into Stuart Broad around the ground, who had been practicing in the nets earlier. he asked him if he was going off for a round of golf, to which he replied "no I'm going back to my room to watch the cricket from the balcony & wonder how many wickets I might have taken"
There's no doubt that after 2 days that have not gone as well as they might for England, you could say that Broad & Root may well have made a difference.
