Happy Yorkshire Day, a bit wet but I will not let that dampen my spirits. This year York is the host city, but there are events right across the county.

It's the one day of the year when you can get a Yorkshireman to get a round .

Are people from Hull classified as Yorkists... Or Kingston Upon Hullists

It's a bit like Lancashire playing most of their cricket in Greater Manchester.

Generally referred to as Codheads despite the fact that people from Hull prefer Haddock, go figure.
Actually they are called Hullensians. Many refuse to use the name given to the city in 1299 by Edward I as it is considered a slave name.
It is a very anti royal city. I'll be drinking in a pub which Sir Thomas Fairfax allegedly planned the English Civil War, you can view the room upstairs known as the plotting parlour were it took place.
In 1642 Charles I tried to secure the port of Hull & the largest weapons cache outside The Tower of London. The city gates were shut, a siege took place & the royalist were driven out.
There you go a free history lesson.Smile

If you asked for one of these in Hull, it would be pronounced "Gert":)
