Judd had to dig in, but managed to come through a nervy final to defeat Ali Carter 10-7. That's back to back ranking tournament titles now for Judd Trump.

Phew! It had the makings of Carter scraping an unlikely and undeserved win, so thank goodness sense and talent prevailed.

The Wuhan Open competition proper begins on 7th October, most of the qualifying round took place from 28-30 July at the Leicester Arena, Leicester. The remaining qualifiers, involving players such as Judd Trump, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Ding Jinhui, Zhang Anda, Kyren Wilson and David Gilbert, take place in Wuhan on 6th October.

In the qualifiers, Sunni Akani beat Tom Ford 5-2, Neil Robertson beat Ken Doherty 5-0, Jak Jones beat Ross Muir 5-3.

This sequence of results means although Tom Ford will end the British Open ahead of Robertson in the rankings, he will start the Wuhan Open behind them, and they have a chance to extend their lead over him. John Higgins beat Ben Mertens 5-1, so if he doesn't get into the top 16 at the British Open he has the chance to do so at the expense of Ford.

Mark Selby was the biggest casualty in qualifying. He got a breaks of 130 and 135 to take a 4-1 lead over Long Zehuang but lost the last 4 frames. Maguire is also out after losing 5-4 to WSF Champion Ka Wai Cheung.

Neil Robertson is an early casualty after losing 5-1 to an inspired Jackson Page.

David Gilbert and Ronnie O'Sullivan withdrew due to illness.

Mark Allen has withdrawn due to a family emergency but hopes to be back for his home tournament the Northern Ireland Open.

Judd Trump has remembered how to make a century, making three in his 5-1 trouncing of Polish newcomer Anton Kowalski. Comfortable wins also for Ding Jinhui, Zhang Anda and Kyren Wilson.

RE: Wuhan Open - Joannis - 07-10-2024 15:27

He Guoqiang was hoping to do to Judd Trump what he did to Ronnie in the English Open but didn't succeed. This time Judd got 2 centuries in dispatching Guoqiang 5-2.

Wins also for Ding, Zhang and Kyren.

Robert Milkins poor season continued as he went out 5-4 to Zak Surety.

Tubs Murphy saw off loveable underdog Anthony Hamilton. Wu Yize continued his recent form and came through in a whitewash.

Anthony McGill tried to be granite today against Judd Trump, and it worked for a short while, with Judd riding his luck a bit to be 2-2 at the interval. Judd shook off the granite and fluently eased to a 5-2 victory. The beautiful Chinese female referee was Lyu Zhiwei. Judd faces real granite next as he has to play John Higgins.

Xiao Guodong beat Kyren 5-4 on the pink in a thriller! Xiao won frame 3 after needing 2 snookers. When Xiao was 4-2 up, Kyren made back to back centuries to level at 4-4. In the dramatic final frame, Xiao was 11 ahead with just pink and black on the table. After a safety exchange on the pink, Kyren left Xiao a difficult, awkward pink. Xiao got himself together and potted it to win.

Chinese joy as Ding, Zhang, Si Jiahui and Wu Yize all won. Yize has Jack Lisowski next. Lisowski got 2 centuries in his 5-1 victory over Jak Jones.

Sadly Hawkins, Tubbs and the Craptain all won.

Glad with Lisowski, he must realise that he should have been a World finalist, not his opponent. I'm sure at some time he will get it together to win a tournament and then hopefully kick on from there.

RE: Wuhan Open - Snooks - 09-10-2024 09:19

Jack Lisowski has stormed past Wu Yize 5-0 this morning while Judd Trump has seen off John Higgins 5-2 and Shaun Murphy battled past Ali Carter in a deciding frame.
