I'm curious to know, what do you guys think of Bryson DeChambeau?
He's become sort of a folk hero over here
There's many factors off the course that have led to that
His YouTube Channel
His transformation with his game and his attitude
Being somewhat of an Special Attraction for PGA Tour Audiences (since he plays for LIV, they can't really discuss how he's been playing going into Majors)

^^ I didn't like how he disrespected the game in the past, it would seem he has learned & matured. Considering he's an absolute nutcase when it comes to his theories & ideas about golf, he is coming over as more human now, definitely more likeable, despite still having an air of arrogance, but then many sporting greats have that. How he goes about the game makes for compelling viewing, he has no right to be as accurate as he is off the tee given the distance he hits it. How he sets up with a putter looks horrendous to me, yet his stats are quite impressive despite that. Having a set of irons with a 7 iron shaft throughout has its advantages, mainly the exact same swing plain, but I still think it's a disadvantage when it comes to pitching & chipping around the greens, but again this week in particular that has been a strength.
Overall, I'd say he's good for the game, & has won me over again, after being a little bit anti before.

I have heard how tough a course it is, I would say for Mcilroy to win he has to hope DeChambeau have something of Greg Norman style meltdown and I get the feeling he is far more mentally strong to cope.

Just wow
Incredible Par for Bryson on 18 after that wayward drive
That's a massive U.S. Open Par under the circumstance
Rory though, with two extremely painful misses Huh
He was putting so well then two short misses did him in

^^ Rory had made 496 putts inside 3 foot all season before the miss at 16. What usually happens at golf after a missed putt is you get another one of the same length soon after which can get in your head. The putt on 18 had break which made it tougher, but still makable.
Despite the misses from Rory, Bryson hung in well after not playing his best. his short game bailed him out. Bryson will be hunting many more majors after the belief he'll get from this win.
Rory will have to cope with more mental scaring after letting this one slip away.

It didn't look like going much beyond Bryson or Rory, and credit to the latter for making a good go of it, even if it slipped away toward the end. Most players would give their gloves to get so close. Also well done to deChambeau though.

I see Sergio Garcia finished around 12= which seems good for his age. I forget whether he ever won a Major. His heyday is long past, though.

^^ Masters Champion in 2017.

I only remember the play-off with Harrington when he won the Open, whichever year that was.

I think De Chambeau was tearing up all sorts of course records a few years ago wasn't he? a bit like Tiger did. It did seem like back then, he was more intent on showing Tiger what he did he can do better and think now he probably seems much more mature. Moreover, sometimes players do need to respect the course a little. Rory probably is disappointed, I'm sure he realises he had a great opportunity, But I'm sure he didn't play that badly overall.

But I do think he will rest do a few tweaks maybe, and look back at that and look at the Open as his likely best chance of a Major this year.

The 2008 Open at Carnoustie in a 4 hole Playoff, a Garcia had led by 3 shots going into the final round, Harrington was 6 back.
The following year at Oakhill in the PGA Championship Garcia had topped the laederboard by the 8th hole only for Harrington to pass him by the 17th & hold on to victory.
