Sadly for Mpetshi Perricard he wasn't able to defeat Fritz after being 5-1 up in what would of been a match winning tie breaker last night.

Rinderknech faired better & now Zverev joins the considerable list of seeded players eliminated in Round 1

Monumental shock as French Open champion and number two seed Coco Gauff is out. Beaten by Dayana Yastremska 7-6 (7-3) 6-1.
Wow Surprised.

Another one bites the dust, second seed Coco Gauff joins third seed Pegula & fifth seed Zheng in being eliminated by unseeded players in round 1.

Four of the top ten in both the men & woman have been eliminated in the first round, think Balding said that was the first time in the open era.

Quite an opening round to the tournament

Djokvic is in a fight in his match against Muller.
1 set all, but Djokovic tends to have a gear to get him over the winning line.

Anyone watch the Raducanu match, on paper looks like she dispatched the former champion comfortably

I am wondering if the omens are good enough at the moment that we could get a British winner in either singles? has play started any earlier the last few days so players aren't playing in extreme heat or have they extended time for breaks between games to compensate for hot weather in any way

Yes Raducanu played a very aggressive match and produced a really good performance. Excellent deep groundstrokes gave Vondrousova very little time. Combined with some very good serving it made for very pleasant viewing indeed.
Now for the bad news.
Next up Aryna Sabalenka.
Gulp.

RE: Wimbledon 2025 - Doddle - 02-07-2025 21:27

Katie Boulter scraped a decider but then got hammered thereafter.

RE: Wimbledon 2025 - Charlemagne - 02-07-2025 21:38

The girl who beat Boulter is an Argentinian called Solana Sierra.
During the match when Boulter was serving the director chose a rear shot of Sierra. With lots of botty wiggling.

She's become my new favourate tennis player Cool

^Should we have a thread this section for tennis players bottoms?
Predictions on how many Brits will make it through to week two - I'd say sav 5. And do we think we have seen the last of Heather Watson on court in singles matches?

I do think there is part of me thinking that that all injuries she has had over the years have taken their toll on her and her game certainly hasn't bee easy And I would think the defeat on Monday probably has now left her wondering about her participation in future singles tournaments.
