hellz yeah they count! they are the kings of envoking emotion up the audience. i like how they can take quite a plain story line and make it very interesting e.g porkoroso & my neighbour totoro

Hayzie Wrote:ah, i used to do that with Naruto, stocking up eps like that makes for a great experience. Didnt know about Excel Saga, might have to try and fit it into my relaxation schedual. How would you rate it as a whole so far?

Excel Saga would never fit into anyones relaxation schedule Big Grin

It's freakin' crazy, I'd definetly recommend it.

Yeah firekind obviously 'Spirited Away' is the absolute nuts and I thought that 'Howls Moving Castle' was its equal. I liked 'Princess Mononoke' and 'Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind' but they lacked that certain something that made SA and HMC so classic, 'Laputa Castle in the Sky' was just as good as SA and HMC, I thought it was great. 'Grave of the Fireflies' made me cry like a little girl haha. And 'Tales from Earthsea' was pretty decent, though not great. I have got to watch 'Only Yesterday' and 'Whisper of the Heart' which are sitting next to my dvd player at the moment, I am just too busy. I have talked about every one I have seen now, got a bit carried away. I intend to buy all of the Ghibli collection in the near future, they are just too fucking good.

You have any favourites firekind?

lol no no, its ok, 'we only human we all make mistakes, i love you like a fat kid loves cakes'. Excel Sage is an anime of its own, not an actual saga

i would probably choose princess monokee and laputa. its hard to find a weak one amongst them.

Haha take it you haven't seen 'Tales From Earthsea' then.

RE: Anime fans - firekind - 08-07-2009 22:09

nope. its the latest one i believe. it was on film4 recently but my dish is pointing into a big tree and the reception was shit. i got 13 of them from a torrent and the only one that isnt great is whisper of the heart. its a little too realistic and boring. still worth a watch though.

pom poko is off its head lol

I think ive seen princess monoke, not too sure if it is the one im thinking of.

I know this thread is pretty much dead but I didn't think starting a new one would be appropriate.
Has anyone seen Arrietty? I'm also a fan of Studio Ghibli and I fear I have missed my chance to see it at the cinema, due to its limited release. I would be interested to know how it is rated among the other well known titles?
To pitch in with my favourites, I can only state the obvious ones yet again. Spirited Away is not only one of the best Anime films I've seen but one of the best in any genres, the amount of imagination and visual splendour in it is unbelievable, making the next Hollywood Blockbuster seem even more generic. I also really like My Neighbour Totoro (cameo in Toy Story 3 was a delight), Kiki's Delivery Service and Porco Rosso. There are many more in which I need to see, The Cat Returns being at the top of my list but the lure to see anime on the big screen is something I can't ignore.
