RE: Liverpool FC - mitchell - 06-10-2010 15:16 Sorry groundnpound mate i'm not having it like i said in my last post about American sports they don't have the money for this level of football, even if they can pass the premier league test which they only have to prove the money is there for 1 year albeit the test is run year after year but this only means in a year or so we may be in the same situation with Yank's wanting silly money for something they can't afford to keep. I hope i'm wrong but i can't see it, to them just like the rat Hicks this is an investment opportunity. Watching Sky Sports News today has been hilarious with some fans thinking this now means we'll win the league, & giving it the oh come on the derby we'll smash Everton... Not the way Hodgson's doin things!!! RE: Liverpool FC - woods1976 - 06-10-2010 15:54 i agree with mitchell hicks n gillette made all these promises too and we're worse than we ever were. the yanks at villa, manure & liverpool have never had d fans interests at heart, can't see why the new yanks will be any different. RE: Liverpool FC - groundnpound - 06-10-2010 16:14 You can only trust that Broughton and Purslow have made the right decision Mitchell. We don't need Man City type ivestment to get back to the top of the game in my view.I want this guy to clear our debt and bulid us a new ground or improve Anfield and provide the money to buy the players that can help bring us the league title.Build a squad that will stay together for the next 5-6 years.Chelsea style.Something solid.Let's get our pride back. I was dreading goodison next week. Now i can't wait. This is what we've desperately needed. Those two f***ing mugs are almost gone! The boost that will give everyone is immense! They've had a hold over the club for years and now they're out! Knowing that if we can get our act together in the next 2-3 months we can re-inforce in the new year and get into the champions league with a bit of luck. Then we can shop at the top end of the market in the summer. The players must surely see it this way? Im an optimist Mitchell but im cautious though lad.Give the new owner a chance to prove himself. RE: Liverpool FC - groundnpound - 06-10-2010 16:30 Don't let those 2 mugs cloud your vision for the new owner lad.We just have to wait and see what happens. RE: Liverpool FC - mitchell - 06-10-2010 16:48 Agreed on post #194 groundnpound, Broughton and Purslow especially Purslow as he will still be here when they come in, will make sure it's not episode 2 also i think what's gone on at Utd & Villa will make the premier league force the issue of money with new owners from now on. But i'm still a skeptical little fuck!!! look at Villa & West Ham who have both just got new owners but are already clubs who are looking to steady the ship rather than take it to the high seas..... This is like a game of pass the parcel.... WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN!!! WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN!!! RE: Liverpool FC - Mister Gummidge - 06-10-2010 21:26 I must say to the Liverpool fans, don't judge owners based on nationality. While Hicks and Gillette haven't been perfect, the amount of money they made available for Rafa wasn't exactly chickenfeed, the fact is he spent it badly and brought in quite a few mediocre players on gigantic paypackets, who it's going to be hard to shift. Randy Lerner made money available for O'Neill, who then proceeded to buy a bunch of players he didn't actually use who are now getting chances and playing well under first MacDonald and now Houllier. The Glazers took over at United and, despite the protests, haven't actually done anything wrong. I refuse to believe anyone who tells me that United couldn't have forked over £8-10mil for Van der Vaart, or £10-12mil for Oezil. Fergie is just going through one of his complacent phases. His major failing as a manager has always been an inability to see lack of depth and a touching, if misguided, faith in players who've served well for prolonged periods. The owners can hardly be blamed for that. Assuming everything goes through at L.F.C., the new bloke isn't likely to be planning on buying a sinking ship in order to spend nothing fixing it and watching it capsize. American sports may run differently from football, but the owners still have to spend vast amounts to make a franchise a saleable asset (the eventual goal of sports investment). The current value of Liverpool F.C. in terms of saleable assets (market value of playing staff and stadium) will total significantly less than the amount being paid to purchase the club, by as much as perhaps 50% if Man City don't want to buy anyone but Torres, meaning the man has a plan for restoring the true value of Liverpool F.C., namely the actual brand. You restore that value by making it a market leader again, i.e. investment in infrastructure (new stadium, playing staff) to ensure that you increase market share (trophies). Sport as a business opportunity is a game for venture capitalists rather than asset strippers, as evidenced by NESV's success with the Red Sox. Make no mistake, he'll be planning to speculate in order to accumulate.
