RE: Scottish Football - Scottishbloke - 04-07-2012 19:50 In responce to munch1917's question regarding who will become club 12. SPL rules state that if Rangers had gone into liquidation before last season ended then Dunfermline would retain their place but because Rangers were still operational as the season ended Dunfermline were subsequently relegated. Dundee because they finished 2nd in Division 1 should be by rights invitated to join the SPL. My money's on Dundee, they have a larger travelling support than Dunfermline does aswell as offering derbies to my team Dundee United aswell as St Johnstone and Aberdeen. Because if it is, they should get to replace Rangers in the SPL next season Ross County got promoted. The Sfl are under no obligation to promote another of their member teams to the Spl, so there might only be an eleven team top flight when the new season kicks off. RE: Scottish Football - lovebabes56 - 05-07-2012 05:17 Something tells me that the SPL will probably have it's lowest gate attendances this season, and I hope that what has happened to Rangers serves as a warning to all involved in British league football. I doubt it. Look at the teams in England who've been getting aware with it. Clubs spend beyond their means now, even at the lower levels like the SPL (joking ) . Portsmouth, Plymouth, Port Vale are 3 clubs who have in recent seasons got into big money trouble but are still going. Of course the attendances will drop in the SPL next season, that goes without saying. You can't take away the average of Rangers support home and away and not expect it to drop. I just hope the other clubs who have all be happy to laugh at Rangers don't find themselves in debt in a few seasons time due to any knock on effect. RE: Scottish Football - Scottishbloke - 05-07-2012 17:47 If you ask me the attendances will most likely go up this season in the SPL and I'd also like to personally congratulate all the SPL chairmen for sticking to their guns and not backing down. I honestly feel if Rangers had made a public apology right at the at start they might have gained a bit more of an understanding but it was all too little, too late, they have played the victim card throughout this whole shambolic mess and blamed everybody else except themselves. Rangers are a new club and thus should start at the bottom, no exceptions made. We cannot have SKY TV dictating to us that they must enter the 1st Division or else they will pull the plug, no this is about more than TV money, if SKY don't want Scottish football if Rangers are dropped all the way to the 3rd then fuck them, we'll start up our own TV Channel. Also a bid by BBC Scotland shouldn't be discounted if such a scenario arises. RE: Scottish Football - bigguy01 - 05-07-2012 21:46 ally mccoist has come out and said something sensible and could defuse a difficult situation for everyone by saying rangers newco should start life in div 3. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18730809 RE: Scottish Football - LatexRyan - 06-07-2012 12:42 (05-07-2012 21:46 )bigguy01 Wrote: ally mccoist has come out and said something sensible and could defuse a difficult situation for everyone by saying rangers newco should start life in div 3. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18730809 It's all fine and dandy saying that now, but he could have said that right at the very start, but he didn't. Too little too late. Besides they should be forced to start outside of the SFL as they currently do not meet the requirements to hold SFA membership. They do not have 12 months of accounts, so by rights their application should not be considered. RE: Scottish Football - Doddle - 06-07-2012 13:39 As an East Stirling fan, I say "stick 'em in the Highland League" Although I suppose if they do drop to Div 3, then we'll get 2 trips to Ibrox* a season, which might bring in some cash. I would have been more upset a few years back when we were pushing for promotion, but I don't foresee that happening for us this year, so whatever. *Ok, not Ibrox, then. RE: Scottish Football - Scottishbloke - 07-07-2012 21:55 What an absolute fucking disgrace that we have to wait until the 13th Juy until this matter with Rangers and and who will become club 12 in the SPL is resolved. The season kicks off on the 2nd August, just how the hell is either Dundee or Dunfermline going to have a squad in place that is good enough to compete fairly in the SPL with only 3 weeks to do so. Out of this shambles that is Scottish football hopefully in the long term our game up here will begin to prosper again. World Cup 2014 we need to have Scotland there, I'm fed up having to miss the big party time and time again. |
