im afraid 'almost' scoring is not good enough

Under pressure that was a brave and good quality display from England.
Going forward they threw everything at Poland and with sheer persistence got their just reward in a relentless building of pressure on the opposition goal. Yes ok Poland had a couple of opportunities on the counter and yes in a World Cup proper against quality opposition we would be punished but this was a one off do or die game.
Win or bust. England, ultimately saved their best two performances until the time they really needed them.
Far from being dismissed this should be welcomed. England have folded under pressure before.
Not this time. It is very easy to slam players when they do badly.
Maybe now we should give the team some praise for performing well when the pressure was on despite general perception as to the strength of the group.
Yes in the World Cup proper England will have to display a more thoughtful approach and keep the ball thereby not having to chase it around in hot conditions after a long domestic season.
It will be no use bombing forward at the opposition for as long as possible and then hanging on for grim death.
Quality teams will soak it up and pick holes everywhere so England will need to be disciplined and selective.
Pick and choose their passes and mix up the tempo. No wasting energy.
But for now in a one off high stakes all or nothing decider England have done the job.
Well done all.

agree with most of that snookered but it wasn't a do or die game we would have been in the playoffs if we drew or lost

True to my word, I said I'd come on and hold my hands up if England qualified - and this is me holding those hands up. They completed the job over what had looked like two very difficult home games at one stage.

True Joey it wasn't a clear cut win or bust like it was in 1973 with the safety net of the playoffs there in case - but let's give the lads credit for digging in and getting the win we needed to complete the job. With so many Polish supporters now living in this country it made for a difficult atmosphere at Wembley - and the usual England tension just added to the pressure. But England responded to that pressure. Sure, it wasn't totally pretty but we're there - that was the only objective over these two games and they've done it.

Now the hard work starts to put together a squad capable of a respectable showing at Brazil next year.
