RE: Coronavirus - is enought being done to contain it? - Carl-Gen X - 13-03-2020 21:17 Mikel Arteta (Arsenal manager) announces that he is 'feeling better already' one day after the story broke he'd been diagnosed. That was bloody quick! RE: Coronavirus - is enought being done to contain it? - Rake - 13-03-2020 21:37 I couldn't care less about whether Trump gets tested or not. I have however advised my elderly parents to practice social distancing to the maximum from now on. Seems the news media have caught up with what I was saying early this morning on this thread about building herd immunity among the young and fit to stifle transmission. The CSO confirmed this today. This does mean protecting the 60 + age groups from close social contact with the younger age groups. Expect announcements and measures from the Govt. to assist this very shortly. As the CSO said, if you lockdown without herd immunity, when you relax the lockdown it all flares up again. We are adopting a nuanced approach to this, lets pray it works. Good luck. RE: Coronavirus - is enought being done to contain it? - Carl-Gen X - 13-03-2020 23:56 Telly’s gonna be a pile of wank for the foreseeable, no sport whatsoever, possibly the babe channels go down as well...what’s left? Shite soap operas and newsreaders scrambling to outdo each other with the hysterical scaremongering. I’ve already stopped watching the news, had enough of the twats doing their utmost to scare me. They’re not scaring me, they’re pissing me off as much as the selfish gobshites stockpiling bog roll. RE: Coronavirus - is enought being done to contain it? - lovebabes56 - 14-03-2020 06:55 They'll be screening hourly virus reports I expect as well (13-03-2020 21:37 )Rake Wrote: I couldn't care less about whether Trump gets tested or not. What happens to the election if he & Pence get it and die? Not many sitting US presidents have died during office (if you count the she throwing incident at George Bush an assassination attempt) have they? RE: Coronavirus - is enought being done to contain it? - Rake - 14-03-2020 12:08 From the British Medical Journal: “The UK government’s plan for dealing with covid-19 has now moved from the “contain” phase to the “delay” stage.1 This is just a recognition of reality. The World Health Organization has confirmed that the outbreak is now a pandemic,2 and the spread of disease is moving as expected.3 The move to the “delay” phase raises the question of what an effective UK reaction to pandemic covid-19 is going to look like, other than to buy us some preparation time. ITV’s political editor Robert Peston has a close working relationship with sources inside Boris Johnson’s government, and his latest blog outlines the government’s “herd immunity” strategy.4 It is worth quoting: “The strategy of the British government in minimising the impact . . . is to allow the virus to pass through the entire population so that we acquire herd immunity, but at a much delayed speed so that those who suffer the most acute symptoms are able to receive the medical support they need, and such that the health service is not overwhelmed and crushed by the sheer number of cases it has to treat at any one time.” Peston reports that the government’s plans are based on scientific advice that covid-19 cannot now be contained and that the draconian measures seen in China are likely only to delay its spread, which will resume once freedom of movement returns.” |
