RE: Dr Who - KerrAvon - 06-01-2021 18:24 ^ thought it was bit harsh on Jodie, she's a good actress, but she does have to carry a little of the blame. I don't care what she said offscreen but on screen after two series I still don't know what her character is other than she's a female Doctor. At this point we usually know a Doctor well enough to miss him, but I don't think so with her. She has no real personality to stamp on screen. But as has been said many times, the writing takes the biggest blame. I thought the writing that undermined Capaldi's excellent (best nu Who IMO) Doctor was poor, but it's regressed multitudes under Chibnall's watch. I too wonder if he was ever really a fan of the show. RE: Dr Who - Stemmw - 06-01-2021 20:29 ^ I'd agree with this. I think shes a good actor but her Doctor is just blank, definitely not helped by boring and uninteresting plots, dialogue that's so patronising it's laughable and no clear direction or clue of where they want to go with the series. Although her 2nd series did improve on her 1st a bit, but it was still a real drag. I'd compare her situation to Henry Cavill's Superman. I've seen him in other stuff and liked him a lot but as Superman in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Justice League he's just an empty vessel, zero personality. The writing and directing has to take the blame for me, in both cases. Although Capaldi had a lot of dross to work with in his 1st and 3rd series too but his charisma made it watchable and elevated the shite writing a bit, but Whittaker doesn't quite have that same draw unfortunately. RE: Dr Who - *Kal-El* - 25-07-2021 18:08 Series 13 Trailer https://youtu.be/pNb51OwYO6M RE: Dr Who - *Kal-El* - 29-07-2021 15:36 Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall both now leaving the show. RE: Dr Who - skully - 29-07-2021 16:24 Probably best tbh, if they don't keep it fresh they'll end up killing it, Moffat stayed too long and started recycling/robbing ideas. RE: Dr Who - lovebabes56 - 29-07-2021 17:13 I thought they had introduced another doctor in the last series? Sad to see Jodie leave but wondering if people in some quarters ever really accepted a female doctor to begin with. i wouldc love to see the doctor played by someone who could put a bit of strength back into the role and would like to see some monsters who have been missing in actiion (MIA) for years brought back RE: Dr Who - Tumble_Drier - 29-07-2021 18:31 Any chance of it going back to being a fun sci-fi adventure shiow and ditching the peachy, finger wagging bullshiit? Throw some money at it and give Idris Elba a crack at the job. RE: Dr Who - Sm© - 29-07-2021 18:56 ^^ I thought Elba was done with Sci Fi. he hated the costumes, hair, contact lenses, make up, swords etc. Playing Nelson Mandela gave him a God complex. He did do the Sky VIPPPPPPPPP adverts, so anything is possible RE: Dr Who - Doddle - 29-07-2021 20:32 (29-07-2021 16:24 )skully Wrote: Moffat stayed too long and started recycling/robbing ideas. In fairness, it's often said he was doing that before he even took over In other news, Evil of the Daleks is the next classic series DVD being animated for release in September, and I think it's getting time I had a look at some of these recent ones. There's no dress code that I'm aware of. Another Actor I've always wanted to see have a go is Sean Pertwee because of his obvious family connection, although he might not be interested for that reason! |
