RE: Dr Who - ShandyHand - 02-01-2022 16:27 ^ I suppose it depends whether as a viewer you're content with the limited scope and action. I can see it could be regarded as a bit of a potboiler. But if forced to choose I'd rather small done relatively effectively than grandiose failing. RE: Dr Who - Stemmw - 02-01-2022 17:02 I quite liked it, was actually surprised how good it was and for me it was the best episode of Jodie Whittaker's run. Aisling Bea was a standout and kinda shocked me how good she was. Enjoyable action and a plot that left a few teasers for the future. Good understated character moments especially in the scene with Dan and Yaz and Dan and the Doctor a little after that. Hopefully can end on good couple of episodes after the anticlimactic Flux storyline. RE: Dr Who - Doddle - 04-01-2022 13:52 Finally watched this last night (quite quick by my standards ) It was OK, really. I expect Chibnall will be happier writing sitcoms or "family dramas" in future. The thought that a small cast is a covid requirement did at least lead to a more focused effort, even if some of the science was just a tad shonky, eg "next time we'll only have 2 minutes to get an unfathomably long list of actions completed" "woddyer mean, 2 minutes? We've been yapping at least 10 this time round..." And amusing that the next episode has been kept quiet ready for a big reveal (which was pretty anti-climactic). RE: Dr Who - Rammyrascal - 04-01-2022 15:01 I too finally was able to watch yesterday and I enjoyed it. Agree, Aisling Bea surprised me too and I'm intrigued to see what happens over next few specials which end Jodie's run as the doctor RE: Dr Who - ShandyHand - 04-01-2022 21:13 The regen is supposed to be in the autumn special. (Did you see they've started auditions for new doctor btw?) First proper episode of new doc and RTD mark 2 is reportedly the 60th Anniversary. Conclusion: Either an odd and disappointing gap is being left next Christmas/NY or there's a surprise coming there. RE: Dr Who - *Kal-El* - 02-04-2022 23:26 Legend of The Sea Devils Trailer https://youtu.be/Bisv9LLJCtk RE: Dr Who - skully - 03-04-2022 11:38 Looks a bit shit, but hey, at least it's not the fucking wheelie bins or tin men. lol. RE: Dr Who - KerrAvon - 03-04-2022 12:05 That sea creature is probably a Myrka. At least it looks an upgrade on the pantomime horse creature from "Warriors Of The Deep" lol RE: Dr Who - Rammyrascal - 17-04-2022 21:51 (02-04-2022 23:26 )*Kal-El* Wrote: Legend of The Sea Devils Trailer Was on BBC1 this evening, Not bad at all and at the end was shown the first teaser for Jodie's final appearance as Dr Who which reveals the return of a former Dr Who companion from the 1980's and is called "The Centenary Special" RE: Dr Who - KerrAvon - 18-04-2022 20:34 The fact that trailer seemed to generate more excitement than The Legend of The Sea Devils itself about summed it up. Felt it was a bit of a wasted opportunity. The Sea Devils themselves looked fined but a lot of their action scenes looked awful, the filming all over the place with Sea Devils and humans often not in the same frame to see what was happening. The relatively short length of the special and bad editing were not a coincidence. As usual in the Chibnall era, a famous character was thrown in, pirate queen Madam Ching, but she was rather one dimensional apart from a speech about her family. Jodie was just Jodie, still struggling to impose her Doctor with the material given, even as the end approaches. I didn't think I'd warm to John Bishop but I rather have. As for the fan generated Thasmine romance, I actually don't mind it and think it was best part of the show. I actually felt for Yaz, and Mandip Gill's acting showing nervous hope which was hurtfully dashed was actually good. If you've been friend zoned you know lol. I watched this on a big family and friends Easter break and the kids loved it, so maybe I sometimes forget who the show is targetted at lol |
