very happy that Bristol and north Somerset have now gone into level 2 , they should have never been level 3 in the first place, all the covid was in one little area that has now been sorted out, only disappointment is rest of Somerset didn't go down to level 1 as it really should have, hopefully happen next week, looking forward to being able to get back to watching the football now, its proven to be a good thing that the southwest is so far away from the big cities

I think by far the most important factor for which tier your in, is hospital capacity. Consider, having a car accident for example, which may require hospital care. In normal times this may be dealt with. If hospitals are maxed-out with covid cases, others may also die, including many cancer patients that have had treatment halted.
People are tired of compliance, but if we had 400-500 deaths every day through a terrorist attack, there would be must more of an outcry.
Have we reached the point were many are just accepting the daily death toll, & become sanitized to the fact.

I heard of one area in Essex which has moved into Tier 3 and one of the reasons is that they have over 30 Covid cases in the local hospital. A nurse has revealed that the majority of those patients were transferred to them from Basildon which has been overwhelmed. Difficult choices for politicians.

5 or 6 Grenfell Towers every day would be an easier comparison for people to identify with.

Looks like Boris is cancelling Christmas for the South East Tongue Tongue

The prime minister has confirmed that stricter restrictions will take place in London and South East England from midnight.
They are going into Tier4 which I believe is all non essential retail will close.
And Christmas is now going to be for 1 day only in tier1-3 and it's effectively cancelled in London and the South East.

What an absolute shambles yet again from the Government in this pandemic this week

Throughout this week Boris & the government was saying that they weren’t changing the Christmas rules even though they’d announced this new strain of Covid-19 which was causing a massive increase in cases in London & the south east in particular.

On Wednesday at the press conference, Boris again said the rules weren’t changing & was telling people to have a “Merry Little Xmas”

He then repeated this when he was in my part of the U.K. in Bolton on Thursday or Friday.

Now on Saturday he’s cancelled Xmas for people in the south east & London and only given people in this area hours to be ready for this change. Plus has told the rest of England that the Xmas 5 day relaxation is now only 1 day on Xmas Day. All of England now are having to rip up their Xmas plans less than a week before Xmas. I myself won’t be affected as I’m staying at home for Xmas dogsitting for my brother whilst he’s in panto in Liverpool which is going ahead as Liverpool is in tier 2

Especially feel sorry for London & the south east that in the space of 4 days has gone from Tier 2 to this new Tier 4

Also there’s been the farce with schools in London this week.

confirmed that the new level 4 rules are the same as the November lockdown, so most things closed but you can still got to work and the schools are staying open, also still be able to do things like travel as its only advice not to, not a rule saying you cant,
i fully expect a lot of people to not pay any head to them just as most seamed to not do anything different in November,
they are saying the new covid is 60% more contagious than old covid but is no more likely to kill, if anything it may be a slightly weaker covid,
