Barcelona insist that the fee for Neymar was 57m euros - and since the transfer has been subject to a criminal investigation in Spain the club have provided the necessary documentation to investigators to substantiate their statements that the fee was €57m.

This makes Neymar only the 13th most expensive transfer. As posted above, James Rodríguez is the 4th highest. Zinedine Zidane is 5th.

You are right, but the Neymar deal has since been overtaken by the transfers of David Luiz, Luis Suárez and James Rodríguez, pushing Neymar down to the 13th most expensive transfer ever.

Detailed figures of Neymar transfer

fcbarcelona.cat 01/24/2014 19:55

Cost – 57.1 Million Euros

“We are very proud of the Neymar contract, but it seems like we are being asked to apologise for it. It was a very tough negotiation”, according to Raül Sanllehí, who personally headed the team which hammered out the deal. The Director of the Football Management Area said he very much regretted that the figures surrounding the transfer had been leaked, but again insisted that the global cost of the transfer was 57.1 million Euros, to which a bonus of 2 million Euros will be added if Neymar finishes in the top three of the Ballon D’Or.
