RE: General Election 2019 - GMach1 - 12-12-2019 10:39 What an incredibly stupid time of year to have an election of any sort; cold, wet, windy, but I went to cast my vote and we shall see if it makes the slightest difference. RE: General Election 2019 - hornball - 12-12-2019 10:50 Life continues in all respects through such conditions the rest of the time, so why should voting - arguably the most important task of all - be curtailed just because someone might get hissed on, or their latest hairstyle blown apart?? I would be mildly hacked off btw - given all that is said about the inadequacies of the current crop of MPs - if turnout is as suggested in some places - down in the fifty percentage range (60% at best) Surely if things are as bad as portrayed by some, the figure should be close to 100%. Everyone has the right to decide, but don't vote equals don't complain in my book! My mum is of the view that nobody will miss her one vote if she doesn't cast it! What if everyone believed their 'single' vote wouldn't make a difference, and 'abstained' We would end up back where we started! RE: General Election 2019 - hornball - 12-12-2019 11:13 I wonder where the best place in terms of tv coverage of the results will be? I would like to be able to watch and receive analysis without a studio full of party representatives, whose only purpose is to play the one-upmanship pantomime game - a series of presenters driving such a 'side show' Our own representatives (prospective as they are) unfortunately showed us in our worst light - again - with the TV debate shown here (don't know if it was shown UK wide) Nothing but a slanging match once more! RE: General Election 2019 - SecretAgent - 12-12-2019 11:14 ^ We should make it law that you have to vote. There’s no excuse for not voting when postal votes are available. RE: General Election 2019 - hornball - 12-12-2019 11:22 Not sure I like that! Part of being free to choose, is being free to decide to not vote! You lose your voice - as I indicated before - if you don't vote, but where you make something compulsory, inevitably, there has to then be a sanction for not following what would be the law of the land! |
