In my opinion, Russia shouldn't have the World Cup. Because of their not exactly world-friendly politics (Crimea; racism; homophobia; war mongering), I think they should have been stripped of it. I know thats impossible, it won't happen now and FIFA don't like to talk about politics and football together, but its my opinion that this is not the ideal country to host a World Cup. Not until they change their ways anyway. RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil - Stillroom Rock - 14-07-2014 18:01 Great as he is, I can't understand how FIFA awarded Messi the player of the tournament,he wasn't even the best player for Argentina RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil - Regenerated - 14-07-2014 18:21 Mascherano would have a case of being both Argentina's and the tournament's best player. He's arguably been Argentina's most important player considering the amount of clean sheets and 1-0 shut outs they've recorded. That match saving tackle against Robben in the semi was outstanding. Guys like Mascherano and Schweinsteiger for Germany have underrated roles - its the 'donkey work' in the center of the park that a lot of the time goes unnoticed. By that I mean the guys who make the blocks, tackles, passes etc that keeps the team ticking. These hard working defensive players are equally and sometimes more important than the attacking players. Racism, homophobia goes on everywhere, if anything holding the world cup will there will bring the country together with others and could improve things for them... I remember when Poland and Ukraine have world cup and the English media here were only trying to focus on Racism and making under cover TV shows saying that the tournament would be ruined by it.. Turns out that the tournament went fine... RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil - whorelover - 14-07-2014 21:30 (14-07-2014 17:50 )Regenerated Wrote: In my opinion, Russia shouldn't have the World Cup. Or is this a standard that only applies to countries like Qatar and Russia? RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil - whorelover - 14-07-2014 21:32 This has to be the sexiest fan at the WC. So blonde and fake RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil - mickster - 14-07-2014 21:47 Re Goodfella 3041; Why is it called The FA Premier League then , if the FA don't run it ? I'm well aware Derby's stadium was originally called "Pride Park". I'mpretty sure the Burton Academy was christened the same ,or something very similar .All the same you raise some interesting thoughts . RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil - Goodfella3041 - 14-07-2014 22:02 I haven't heard it called the FA Premier League for ages. It is technically the Barclay's Premier League and, again, that points to a key reason for the split. The Barclay's money gets split between the 20 PL clubs. If it was still part of the FA, a part of it would be diverted to all of the other FA functions. I'm not saying that they are not linked. As the custodian of the "rules", the PL operates effectively under the auspices of the FA. So when Luis Suarez bites someone, he has to answer to the FA, not the PL. Think of it this way: The PL is (broadly) to the FA what... - Grand Prix is to the FIA - Wimbledon is to the LTA Not exactly because Wimbledon is a member's club, but in broad terms the principle is the same. The company that owns all of the IP and the rights to the tournament (i.e. the financial asset) can be independent of the governing body that sets the rules of the game. The official name of the "national football centre" is St George's Park. That's the one that is at Burton. RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil - *Kal-El* - 14-07-2014 22:04 Luiz Felipe has resigned. RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil - HannahsPet - 15-07-2014 05:14 basically the premier league is seperate but its somehow controlled by the FA and as it is with FIFA and UEFA I see it as this the premier league is a collection of 20 clubs who are all members of the FA who basically sell the rights to televise their games so. the same thing happened to the football league when they went the way of the championship |
