RE: Dr Who - Regenerated - 25-11-2023 20:53 I didn't. RE: Dr Who - southsidestu - 25-11-2023 21:20 The story in regards to The Meep was pretty bland, not much better than the The season 4 premiere with the Adipose, its strengths were in its emotional moments & the acting of Tennant, Tate & Finney RE: Dr Who - Doddle - 25-11-2023 21:31 Well, it was what it was. RE: Dr Who - KerrAvon - 25-11-2023 22:17 It was rather meh. The only good bit was the new TARDIS interior, a classic look on steriods. As for the rest I kind of hoped RTD as a writer had changed but sadly no. Once again he was very 'deus ex machina' in resolution, this time with Donna. He really needs to stay just as showrunner. The main plot was basically a straight retread of the comic strip, perhaps there it should've stayed. But I know I'm not the main target audience, so as Doddle says it is what it is. RE: Dr Who - Joannis - 25-11-2023 22:24 I liked the way they coloured that old Dr Who story and added music like they were trying to recreate the atmosphere of the Peter Cushing film imitating it, Dr Who and the Daleks. However cutting the length of the original episodes in half to reduce the playing time to 75 minutes made it look really rushed in places. RE: Dr Who - Regenerated - 25-11-2023 22:44 I'm sorry, it's just not good enough. Very disappointed with a poor story and a weak enemy. With Doctor Who, I expect tension, exciting cliffhangers and a sense of threat - but it's too childish and yes, I agree with Joannis with the rushed pace. I really want to start liking one of my most beloved franchises again but they're making it difficult to do. RE: Dr Who - southsidestu - 25-11-2023 23:30 I suppose if i was to be kind to them, the main focus of the epsiode was The Doctor and Donna & perhaps they did not want a plot that would be too over baring and would allow Tennant and Tate to do their thing and in that regard they succeeded. As KerrAvon stated adult males are not the main target audience, the show has always been a family show that has to provide for younger viewers as well, suppose its difficult to bridge the age divide. Two of my favourite episodes of Jodie's era were Demons of the Punjab & The Haunting of Villa Diodati, when you think about it, it's pretty wild that a show that has an episode like this in it would also expose that same target audience to a story of sectarian violence, ethnic cleansing, Hindutva nationalism & a villain who in the course of the episode breaks someones neck & says that he slit his own children's throats RE: Dr Who - Regenerated - 26-11-2023 00:06 ^ I understand it's not a slasher movie - it has to be family friendly, I accept that. But threat has always been part of the show, regardless of who it's aimed at. You can still have moderated threat and drama in that kind of family show. I mean seriously though - a giant mogwai ? It's an upgrade on the red lobster and tap dancing Cybermen that Chibnall gave us I suppose. I'm fed up of being kind to them, frankly. I spent a lot of time trying to defend them but I kept getting let down. It's been over a year since it was on and David Tennant is a fine actor. I expected more and I don't think it's unreasonable to feel deflated after the promise and the length of time they had with us on last year's cliffhanger. It's disappointing is all. RE: Dr Who - Joannis - 26-11-2023 08:56 The Meep was a character created for the 1980s comic Dr Who Weekly. Frankly it should have stayed in the comics and never have come into the mainstream TV Whoniverse! The only good thing about the comic was that it was drawn by legendary British comic artist Dave Gibbons. Gibbons went on to be the artist on the legendary original Watchmen comics in the mid-80s. RE: Dr Who - Doddle - 26-11-2023 14:36 Unleashed on BBC3 was OK. Pat Mills and Dave Gibbons got to meet a superfan on set, which they probably would never have predicted back in 1979. |
