It's a different story altogether for the founder of the UFC Openweight Predictions Grand Prix who's struggling to match his 2nd place finish from the debut season, currently languishing at the foot of the table. Babeshows UFC Open-weight Predictions Grand Prix champion RE: UFC - mitchell - 31-12-2012 15:25 I didn't think the main event was that great to be honest, If Junior dos Santos is coming into a fight with no cardio then he shouldn't be fighting full stop let alone in a title fight, he was done before the 1st round was up. Cain Velasquez didn't even look like he wanted to finish the fight, this is a guy with 9 finishes from 10 wins, he's fighting the man who gave him his only loss by KO, you'd have thought he wanted to get that back but he showed no sign of even trying for the finish, poor that!. What happened to dos Santos being a BBJ black belt, if he's getting beat in the stand up why not try going to the ground, yeah he was fucked but at least try something different. He did nothing throughout the whole fight of any note, the UFC heavyweight champion, did nothing what so ever. If I was the match maker or one of the UFC top brass I'd be questioning if he put on a show worth his pay packet, possibly around the $150,000 to $200,000 mark. This show was 4 days after Christmas with thousands of fans paying around $50 for the pay per view & I'm sure people getting tickets + flights & accommodation, to see the dominating champion who hasn't even explored his plan B ground game yet.... He still hasn't & he's no longer heavyweight champion. Junior dos Santos should try training with Joe Lauzon, now if your gonna lose a fight thats how you do it, what a fight that was by 2 top dedicated fighters. Hats off to Brad Pickett who came up just short, not so much Phil De Fries... Ooff http://www.mma-core.com/videos/fights/Philip_De_Fries_vs_Todd_Duffee_UFC_155_Part_2/10048127 RE: UFC - groundnpound - 31-12-2012 18:20 It was a sluggish looking fight... Velasquez was all over Dos Santos though and thoroughly deserved the win. He was like a machine early on! Dos Santos was in shock for the first 2 rounds, was amazed at him keeping his hands low all night, Velasquez wouldn't have finished him if they were still fighting now! Must have some chin. That would worry me if i was Cain, he bossed the full 5 rounds but couldn't put Junior away! Strange to see those big lads go the distance, thought the longer the fight went that JDS was gonna find a big shot to take Cain out but it never came... Might get him next time! We could see any amount of fights between the pair. Miller vs Lauzon was immense! Was actually sat clapping my hands after. Fight of the year just about for me, that or Henderson vs Rua. Roll on 2013. All the best lads. Happy New Year! RE: UFC - mitchell - 03-01-2013 12:04 Mike Goldberg will be missing for a while due to personal problems, some say he's in rehab for drug addiction??? I hope he's back soon, he's been here for years & is better than Jon Anik. Paul Daley 7-3 since leaving the UFC is fighting in Ireland within the next 2 weeks or so, I can't remember what the shows called. He's been allowed to fight at home while waiting on visa issues to enter the US. In other news UFC hall of famer Dan "The Beast" Severn has retired from MMA at the ripe old age of 54. His record: W 107 L19 KO 17-3 SUB 60-9 DEC 24-7 DRAW 9 He was 30-5 in the last 6 years.... Wow!!! I remember some of his fights from the mid 90's especially with Ken Shamrock & Royce Gracie. RE: UFC - 199lives - 04-01-2013 00:12 Not actually surprised about Mike goldberg, he's been getting annoying just repeating cliches and talking irrelevent rubbish. Maybe an opportunity to try a few different announcers. Really didn't think JDS would get beaten so badly, bit dissapointing after the second round JDS was just surviving but it didn't look like being stopped either. Lauzon Miller was just awesome, Joe picked up his 12 ufc 'of the night' bonus, he always come ready for a war. the best part of the whole event was knowing he needed the finish so going for a flying heel hook. would have been unbelievable if he pulled that off. joe's blogs are a good watch mainly pre fight but with some post fight in the last one. http://www.youtube.com/user/JoeLauzonDotCom RE: UFC - mitchell - 06-01-2013 12:17 I can't wait for David Price to annihilate this twonk! Death Wish or PR Stunt? Undefeated Boxer Tyson Fury Calls Out UFC Champ Cain Velasquez British boxing champion Tyson Fury has had trouble luring either of the famed Klitschko brothers into a boxing match, so he took to Twitter on Friday to call out UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, whether it be in a cage or a ring. “If the klitchkos r 2 much of (expletive) to fight me then I’ll go & fight the MMA heavyweight champ at least he is game. Wouldn’t last 2 rounds!” Fury tweeted. “@cainmma I challenge u to fight all in in a cage or ring! It could be billed as the man vs midget lets get it on! U small stif idiot. Tit!” Fury is a six-foot-nine-inch, 250-pound British heavyweight boxer with several regional titles, as well as the WBO Intercontinental championship, to his credit. He is 20-0 as a professional with 14 knockouts to his credit. As mentioned, he has been lobbying for a fight with either Wladimir or Vitali Klitschko. Between them, the Klitschko brothers currently hold all of the major world heavyweight boxing titles, and to become a world champion, Fury would have to defeat one or the other. That is likely what led to his outburst on Twitter. It’s unlikely that he truly wants to fight Velasquez on his turf in the Octagon, but making waves via social media could be his way of garnering some attention, trying to ramp up interest in a fight with one of the Klitschkos. Who better to pull into his lobbying efforts than UFC president Dana White, whom Fury included on many of his tweets. White was an early adopter of social media and is nearing 2.5 million followers on Twitter. The only boxer in the modern era to actually try and compete in the Octagon was James Toney, and that didn’t exactly go so well for the world champion boxer, despite more than two decades of combat experience. Toney legitimately trained for the fight, but former UFC champion Randy Couture choked Toney out little more than three minutes into the boxer’s one and only mixed martial arts fight. That, however, isn’t stopping Fury from continuing to rant on and on via Twitter. “I’m the new baddest man on the planet I’ll smash @cainmma. Let’s get it on!” he continued. “I can’t make u all dream of the beating I’d give @cainmma. Can’t blame him blame @danawhite coz he knows I’d (expletive) his man up!” Whether or not Fury’s publicity campaign actually grows any legs or not remains to be seen, but it’s highly unlikely that there is a showdown with UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, in a cage or a ring, anywhere on Fury’s horizon.
