After going part-time in the Barbie and Ken episode the week before, and pretty much MIA altogether, the week before that Rolleyes

The Eps weren’t filmed in order and the reason why in some Eps you hardly saw the Doctor was because Ncuti Gatwa was still filming the show Sex Education so they had work around it.

Really? Maybe they should've got someone who was available.

Not really feeling this Doctor tbh. Following on from Tennant's resurrection probably hasn't helped. He was one of my favourites.

Ruby's good though, I like her Smile

^^^ the issue was never about availability it was who screen tested the best that got the role, there”s been several interviews explaining why he got cast and it wasn’t just him, the actress that plays Ruby Sunday her filming on the series was the Ep 4 “73 Yards” Ep 7 and 8 were filmed at that the same time.

RE: Dr Who - Stemmw - 16-06-2024 18:46

I see what you mean about not feeling it Silent Majority, but it's more about the show itself rather than the doctor for me. I think he can be really good but he needs more to do in terms of emotional range.
The few good moments he's had, in my opinion have been darker and more emotionally deep. There's been too much happy clappy dancing and hugging, feels like they're playing it safe with him, which I'd blame the writing for, rather than the actor.

In episode 7 there was some good points, his turmoil over his granddaughter, his fear at the villain reveal at the end, when he thought the birdperson had killed Ruby in episode 6, in Boom when he admonishes the soldier for their stupidity and her own hypocrisy and his tone completely shifts in one scene. They were really good moments for me and were reminiscent of 10, 11 and 12, but it's just been moments so far.
Another good point is the chemistry between him and the companion, they need to make much better use of that going forward, even if it's just for a handful more episodes before she leaves.

I was being sarcastic.

Stemmw's right though. It's the writing as much as anything. The song and dance routines in particular are cringeworthy. And a lot of things happen without any explanation.
Which will be fine if the finale resolves them. We shall see.

RE: Dr Who - Doddle - 20-06-2024 20:31

I blame the writing too.

Ncuti and Millie are quite good, but this material would tax Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie.

The BBC4 showing of Pyramids of Mars last night was a welcome reminder of much happier times.

Watched the finale last night .... shite, unfortunately, very disappointing, like the majority of this series Rolleyes

Supposedly Cyndi Lauper tuned in, which is quite the Venn diagram really shocked

As for the finale... eh, it's done with for a few more months now.
