So what did the 'macho act' of insisting that schools stay open etc achieve?? I wish - instead of attempting to be seen as being a strong leader by defying the odds for as long as he thinks he is able, the PM would just act in line with scientific/medical advice (he hasn't always done so) when it is given. A point I and others have made before - i know - but what number of infections and deaths can be directly attributed to johnsons ' attempts at retaining 'normality in the face of reality?? I dread to think!! All you say is true!! If the govt were not so inconsistent, however, and had not 'relaxed' the rules at Christmas (stating that people would not follow the rules is no reason or excuse) there would have been scope to deal with those that flouted them. No surprise that when the govt gave them an inch, they took a country mile. All these things played into ending up where we are now!! I think you can at least have a reasonable guesstimate - yes I do!. Take Liverpool as an example - Bojo didn't go as far as advised, and there was a flare up! Here too in NI we have had similar issues, with the usual political arguments getting in the way of joined up action when called for. We too have paid a price! Of course personal responsibility has a major role to play but again, have the authorities made a rod for their own backs by being too persuasive, instead of firm?? Someone said in an earlier post 'crack some skulls' -I wouldn't advocate that, but I see the point in the sense of being naive in expecting people to do the right thing, instead of 'putting the fear of 'god' in them if they don't. RE: Coronavirus - is enough being done to contain it? - hornball - 04-01-2021 18:33 I would be particularly hard on those who 'bleat' we are tired of lockdown - it is affecting us mentally'. Boo bloody hoo!! It is affecting us all, but some of us - the vast majority thankfully - realize that it is for the common good! i am biased as this ****ing thing will kill me in a heartbeat, and I don't consider myself expendable for the freedom of others as one toss pot MP tried to say some were/are! RE: Coronavirus - is enough being done to contain it? - Tumble_Drier - 04-01-2021 18:44 Other than spending time in the garden during Summer my Mum has hardly left the house since last February. She's one of those people the Wankers on Twitter seem quite keen to lock away & forget about so they can go to the pub or stand around watching a load of Tossers kick a ball. She's complained precisely Zero times about it. Something to do with being 83 and living through a War i suspect. About 90% of this country needs to fucking grow up. RE: Coronavirus - is enough being done to contain it? - Boomerangutangangbang - 04-01-2021 18:50 So bungling Boris & Prat Hancock have said schools are safe. Safe for who exactly. A member of SAGE has reported that children, of all ages are spreading the virus 7 times more than other groups of society. Very little signs of social distancing outside of school from what I, & many others have seen. They pass it between themselves & on to parents & teachers who are more likely to become ill & hospitalized. During the previous half-term, infection rates fell only for them to rise again when they returned to school. So not safe. Have they stopped teaching about the sacrifices that parents & grand-parents went through during the war & the benefits that it has given todays society ? Totally spoilt generation that has had it too easy. I I tried telling that to someone of the spoilt generation and I reckon in the words of Rodney : - "I'll get me face smashed in!!" RE: Coronavirus - is enough being done to contain it? - hornball - 04-01-2021 20:47 I look forward to whoever is brave enough to come forward from the group of conservative MPs who are constantly complaining about the lockdown/restriction strategy this time, and the solutions they might offer up as alternatives that would have a cat in hells chance of working - assuming anyone has the henrys to hold their feet to the fire with such pressing questions RE: Coronavirus - is enough being done to contain it? - lovebabes56 - 04-01-2021 21:17 All very well asking us to stay at home but there no change in guidance about non essential shops, so I assume I will be in work tomorrow afternoon as usual.
