I reckon if Martin O'Neill can get a striker in, Villa have got a good shout but they fell away at the end of last season so you worry that history may repeat itself. As a neutral though, I really hope they can get a Champions League spot because it'll encourage others that its not impossible to break up the 'big 4'. Good luck!

One or two injuries and suspensions, especially going forward, and they'll end up exposed for the paper tigers they are as things stand. The rumour mill is in overdrive about Elano's future at City and I think Villa could do a lot worse than sign him. Petrov isn't the creative force he was north of the border, and with Reo-Coker and Sidwell behind him he could really add something different to their attack. If they lose Carew for a prolonged period their attack lacks focus, so they could probably use another target man as well.

Bad form to quote yourself, but I mentioned Villa a long way back in the thread and still think the squad needs greater numbers. Defensively and in central midfield Villa are fine, but there's a bit of a problem in creative areas with regard to strength in numbers and a lack of a quality target man when Carew isn't playing regularly. I like Agbonlahor a lot, but he isn't capable of tying a front line together the way Carew can. I think Villa could use a clever midfielder as well, someone who can play the little flicks and one twos that are needed to open up the best defences. If they can stay free of injuries and suspensions they might do it this year, but that's a big if for a squad short on numbers going forward. Just an opinion, but I still think Villa will have to wait for next season to break the top four.

I hope so mate, but we have the uncontrollable knack of making things hard for ourselves....so I'm not taking anything for granted just yet.
