Yes and he better play like a combined Messi and Ronaldo and score 50 plus goals a season for that outrageous amount. On a positive note it signals United's intentions. Losing him would have sent out a negative message to all the other top clubs.

he had them over a barrel and his agent knew it! it also it sets a precedent, other players will be looking at that money expecting the same if they go to utd. personally i wouldn't put him in the top 20 players in the world! if he's worth that money, what would utd pay the likes of messi?

I have to agree. He is certainly better than some say but certainly not in the top bracket of players. This was always more about United being seen to keep hold of a prize asset than anything else.

Remember the days when football belonged to the man in the street? Sadly, thanks to all the TV and sponsorship money, today's elite players have little understanding of what it's like to have to work and struggle for scant reward....Well not until they have blown their millions on spit roasting expensive call girls and gambling on their own matches Wink

iv always said about rooney is his workrate stands out to me, sometimes u see him making tackles at right back, hes all over the place at times and it does sound strange that he will be getting about 300 grand a week in his 30's but they seem to think hes worth it. lets not forget he is probably going to end up being man utd and englands greatest ever goalscorer but as terence said then what would other players want if they sign 4 man utd knowing what rooney is going to be getting. and an ambassadorial role as well for when he retires!

£15m a year for one player. At Portsmouth our whole squad only earns £1.2m a year. Shy

There is one basketball player who earns more than Rooney (Kobe Bryant) and one baseball player (Alex Rodriguez), although a couple of other baseball players are at about the same level. The average salary in the NBA is said to be $3.8m with 50% of players earning below $2m. In MBL the average salary is $3.3m, although Houston Astros pay on average no more than $550,000.

Rooney is also to get specialist help from United's business arm so it's likely he will tie up very lucrative sponsorship deals too.
To think my mum used to shout at me to come in from playing football and get my homework done or I would never get a good job! Surprised
