Big surprise in selection,England hardly ever pick 2 spinners at home, this is a reflection of a dry pitch which they have asked for all series.A good chance for Kerrigan to show what he can do,but don't expect the wickets in Oz to offer turn.If Swann is unable to play Tredwell or Monty would be a safer bet down under.
Woakes is in to replace Bresnan but is down to bat at 6 with Bairstow dropped due to lack of runs but also the tactical make-up of the side with 2 spinners means they need a 3rd seamer to back-up Broad & Anderson who have bowled a lot of overs in the series.

Tremlett always seems to miss out. Often called up but rarely selected. Anyway, this is the first time that England have fielded 2 debutants in an Ashes match since the Hollioake brothers made their debut in 1997. Alastair Cook says this is the side they would have picked regardless of the series score.

You would guess that with a fit Bresnan he would've played as he is a good exponent of reverse swing which this pitch should offer. They could've have gone with Prior at 6 despite his lack of form.

I think England have got it wrong here. There's nothing in this pitch for a bowler like Woakes and he's going to struggle. This pitch needs a tall bowler to bang it in - where's Tremlett or Finn? bladewave

I doubt Tremlett would've got much out of it either,it's a slow pitch, bang it in & it sits up to be hit.Tremlett would've kept it tight but hasn't taken wickets this season,he'll go ok in Oz.Finn is quicker but still isn't right,I believe Saker & the coaches at Loughborough are formulating a plan to get him back on track.

Not a case of where's Tremlett or Finn, more a case of where's England's so called strength in depth in the fast bowling ranks.

Woakes has bowled the same as he has for England in ODI's when he serves up at least one 4 ball an over.

Lunch - Australia 112-1

Warner went for 6 caught behind off the bowling of Prior.Rogers & Watson added a hundred partnership dominated by Watson who scored 80 off 76 balls with 15 fours & a six, hitting Kerrigan out of the attack with 10 runs off his first over & 18 from his 2nd.

Latest - 123-2 Roger out for 23 as Swann had him caught at slip by Trott

His bowling figures today will look like ODI ones too, if he doesn't tighten up a bit.

I have to say im surprised that England have dropped two established players and debuted two players,i though they might drop Bairstow but to drop Bresnan who has performed well with bat and ball seems crazy as is the decision to play 2 spinners.

Bresnan has injured his back, Jimmy T, and is ruled out for the rest of the summer.
