1988 Seoul Olympics : Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson breaks his own 100 metres world record with a time of 9.79 seconds.
Three days later he is disqualified for a positive drugs test and Carl Lewis is awarded the gold medal and new record of 9.92 seconds.

1878 In a letter to The Times newspaper, British physician Dr Charles Drysdale makes one of the first public warnings of the dangers of smoking tobacco.
(So that got a speedy legislative response.....)

2015 On this day, here are just some of the ladies stimulating potentially hazardous activities in the male viewing population.
(Definitive causal links to premature blindness still remain to be scientifically proven however...)
