Germany are going to give the Astra Zenica jab to the under 65's.
As they say that there's not enough data to show that it's efficency is high in older people.

As they say that there's not enough data to show that it's efficency is high in older people.

From Pascal Soriot, CEO of AstraZeneca.

“The issue with the elderly data is not so much whether it works or not. It´s that we have today a limited amount of data in the older population. You have to think that the program we have today was run by Oxford, it was the Oxford program. And Oxford is an academy group. They´re very ethical, and very academic. So they didn´t want to vaccinate older people until they had accumulated a lot of safety data in the 18 to 55 group. They said it was not ethical to vaccinate old people until they had enough safety data in younger people. Other companies took their risk and went ahead and vaccinated older people faster or earlier. If you start earlier, you have more data. Essentially, because Oxford started vaccinating older people later, we don´t have a huge number of older people that had been vaccinated. So that´s what the debate is.

But we have strong data showing very strong antibody production against the virus in the elderly, similar to what we see in younger people"

The EU bet the house on the French (Sanofi) vaccine and it's blown up in their faces.

Looks like good news about the Novavax vaccine.

^ I must remember Novavax is an American co-vid vaccine, where as Novichok is a Russian nerve agent.
I don't want to get them mixed up. Smile

the good thing about this is if the EU do go through with there threat to block any vaccine made in the EU going to the UK then this one which we are making our selfs should go a long was to making up on the short fall,
that the moment we are on pace to get every one shot up by the end of July, with out the EU made vaccine that was going to slip to end of Sep, but with the new one it should only slip to end of Aug,

The UK Government are being uncharacteristically silent on this so far and unless deliveries from Pfizer are affected they need to keep quiet.

A few lawyers on Twitter are posting their interpretations of the contract and so far opinion is in favour of AZ.

If I was Boris I'd wait until we have enough vaccine to complete the UK programme then offer to help the EU on a humanitarian basis out of the Foreign Aid budget Wink
