Oh yes I loved it good old Noel Tidybeard, John Craven, Keith Chegwin("there we go") and Maggie Philbin. I hated TISWAS with a passion although on the rare occasion I did see it I thought Lenny Henry was very good. Each to their own mate-the were both good for their time, and then later on Going Live essential viewing especially with Trevor and Simon. RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - Carl-Gen X - 29-11-2018 00:18 Truce. Just to give a little reminder though, my favourite Saturday morning programme back then with the legends Motorhead appearing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McIVNsmRqxU RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - rpj316 - 29-11-2018 03:05 (29-11-2018 00:01 )GreenMachine Wrote: I am also a huge Hanna-Barbera fan and I have some facts about that to come-you lucky people Speaking of Hannah-Barbera,Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane was hired by them as his first job after graduating from college. MacFarlane was also due to fly on the first plane that struck the Twin Towers in 2001,he wasn't on board as he was given the wrong departure time. RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - Skyline - 29-11-2018 14:33 Apples are made of 25% air, which is why they float. Honey is the only edible food that never goes bad. Only 1 country has had 2 cities with 2 teams reach the semi finals of the European Cup/Champions League. Scotland - Dundee (with Dundee in 1963 and Dundee United in 1984) and Glasgow (with Celtic in 1967, 1970, 1972 and 1974 and Rangers in 1960) Former Tottenham Hotspur player David Ginola has an unfortunate tale to tell. His name is an Anagram for Vagina Dildo. RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - Carl-Gen X - 29-11-2018 19:28 Thomas Edison, inventor of the light bulb, was afraid of the dark. Water is the only substance on Earth that is lighter as a solid than as a liquid. RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - GMach1 - 29-11-2018 19:29 Speaking of TISWAS they used to get some very unlikely stars on there-one day it was Bernard Manning(now he deserved to have a pie in the face) and Frank 'It's A Cracker!' Carson, but by far the strangest was Trevor McDonald who surprised Lenny Henry who did an impression of him (with outsized, giant glasses) and then got a load of water in the face for his trouble(shielding himself with a sheet of paper!) I did like Henry's characters though, he did the one that did decondensed milk sandwiches which were ooooooooooookay! and Algernon Winston Razamatazz something. I think that later became his other creation in his BBC show Fred Dredd. One of the main reasons some people watched was lovely Sally James(who had been an actress before TISWAS came along) Chris Tarrant was a Capital Radio presenter and part time voice over for Schools Programmes, namely Our World. John Gorman was a member of the Liverpool singing group 'The Scaffold' who along with poet Roger McGough had a hit with a song called 'Lily the Pink' and Bob Carolgees was a comedian who had a puppet dog called Spit. You might remember the adult spin off 'OTT' which did feature some nudity at times and pushed the envelope of what was acceptable for late-night adult humour. They bought in Helen Atkinson-Wood who once did a quiz show called 'Spot the Willy' but it was actually pictures of famous people called Willy. The late animator of Roobarb and Custard, Bob Godfrey did some special adult animation for them. On the final show of OTT Chris Tarrant is standing next to busty black actress, Ellen Thomas who had threatened to 'get them out' and finally she did go topless but the camera followed Tarrant walking towards it whilst she stripped off-she calls out to him and he turns and the last words you heard were "B-loody hell!" They were quite magnificent. RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - Carl-Gen X - 29-11-2018 19:37 Are you quite sure you didn’t watch the show? You know your stuff about it without any shadow of a doubt, suffice to say you triggered more than a few memories...Sally James..what an impact she (and a certain Debbie Harry) had on my raging teenage hormones RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - GMach1 - 29-11-2018 19:45 I did occasionally mate but I have a knack of remembering a lot of trivia like that, a photographic memory of sorts plus I've seen loads of look back shows that had clips of it. Perfect for a thread like this which is why I started it and many people have something they know and want to share. RE: Fascinating Facts and Trivia - GMach1 - 29-11-2018 19:53 I'll find the clip of Ellen Thomas for you mate. Did you watch O.T.T. at all? One memorable sequence had a snooker match and one girl in the audience was supposed to lift up her top and flash her bra at the player, but unfortunately she lifted it up and exposed her breasts. The next morning she was featured on Page 3 of the Sun-her name was Julia Humphries. Things like that happened back then. I also recall the actress Candy Davies writhing about on a snooker table was well. I was always out getting pissed out of my mind or out on the pull when it was on so I've only seen bits of it on Youtube. |
