Anyway, at the start of this war it was being said that if Ukraine could manage to hold out for 10 days it would look bad for Putin. Today's the 40th day.

If Putin thought this would be all over in 10 days - he was wrong desd wrong. I think the world probably has been stunnned by just how tenacious the Ukranians have been, and to think now it's a 40 day plus war now, I wonder how much longer before it becomes a stalemate. All I want the Ukranians to do is to refuse to fucking budge.

Good on the fucking Ukranians not fucking bowing to Putin.

^Wonder how many have left?

Have seen on Twitter that Zelensky has asked the UN Security Council to remove Russia from the Council. That I think is pretty much impossible to do without the UN dissolving and re - forming under a different name and under a different Charter that would allow Security Council members to be voted off or removed. The Charter was written and set in stone after Potsdam in 1945. Same would go for China.

They haven't said anything about the reactor being an issue. Ukraine are back in control of the site now.

Surely those morons KNEW it was fucking contaminated (I beleive for a bout 1,000 years or maybe 10,000 years - before it is safe) before they bloody started digging? I would not be surprised if there is another assault at siome point.

If there were anything like that, there would be a lot more evidence. Bodies and POW's for one thing, the way the Ukrainians are going.

More likely a souvenir from Syria dropped by a Russian soldier.

They probably knew nothing about the place. It wasn't USSR's finest moment. I doubt the embarrassing parts of Russian history are in the school curriculum.

Reactor 4 was destroyed in the accident and is now protected by the new containment building. The building is air conditioned in order to protect the structure from corrosion. Obviously a loss of power means no air con but the back up generators will take care of that. This reactor is slowly being decommissioned by robots and the debris will be stored on site.

The other 3 (iirc) reactors are shut down and have been for years. The control rods will be inserted and the fuel rods would have been removed & stored.

The spent fuel rod storage facility (another new building) needs power for he cooling system to operate as overheating fuel rods aren't a good idea, however even without power it would take quite a while for the water to evaporate.

The other, largely forgotten problem is the huge amount of equipment stored (mostly buried) in the area around the site. Much of it was used in the fire fighting operation & clean up and is highly contaminated. If any of this is disturbed it won't be pleasant for anyone who comes into contact with it

And then we have Russian Grunts digging trenches in the Red Forest. I hope they have access to good medical services. They'll need it.
