RE: Scottish Football - Doddle - 18-07-2012 13:23 I understand the money argument, but why would Sky want to touch a League WITH Rangers in it? When there'll be no Ibrox luxury facilities for them to transmit from, no good players, a tainted club brand..? I mean, I know it's the Murdochs, but are nu-Rangers really going to be all that, when they're going to have such disadvantages? Hearts may be run by a rich nutcase, but they've clearly been better run than Rangers. I should think there's scope for a more competitive division, even assuming Celtic walkover every game (which is highly unlikely). RE: Scottish Football - Scottishbloke - 18-07-2012 15:42 Personally I'm looking forward to this new season more than ever, I was looking forward to going through to the Dundee United v Everton friendly match tonight but because of the amount of rain that's been pouring down the pitch is waterlogged so it's postponed until tommorow night instead. Anyway Celtic are not going to romp easily to the title this season, for a start they recently got beat by a Division 2 German side so they are hardly looking like world beaters at the moment, they ofcourse will be favourites but my Dundee United team have been hottly tipped to be their nearest challengers, I believe we have the best squad that can realistically put in a challenge to wrestle the title away from Glasgow. Dundee United for the title, don't be in the least bit surprised after everything that has happened allready in Scottish football. I see a wind of change in the air as we are entering an era of a fairer distribution of the money, because of the Rangers situation many up here are predicting doom and gloom for the game, I'm not. The only ones that are predicting doom and gloom are those of a Rangers persuation, don't believe the scaremongers, they'll say and try anything to save their beloved Rangers from the hell pit that is Division 3. They are still hoping for a miracle but it's not going to come. When Rangers do eventually come back to the SPL they will see a very different league than the one they departed with the clubs strongers than ever both on the pitch and financially too. They could have dominated that match and just lost after a rare attack from the opposing team. I think a lot of people would like more teams in Scotland to challenge for the league title and I hope teams like Dundee United, Aberdeen or Hibernian do well, but its hard not to see Celtic win the league by 15 or 20 points RE: Scottish Football - Scottishbloke - 18-07-2012 16:10 Most people who live outside this country would have you believe that's pretty much an open and shut case, however having watched Dundee United last season I honestly think the gap is getting smaller. Man for man their is not really a big difference between Celtic and Dundee United these days, I don't really fear any of their players anymore. Back in the past when they had the likes of Jorge Cadette, Henrik Larsson and Paolo Di Canio you had a genuine fear of them and the only way you would beat them was if their key players had an off day. Not anymore the current Celtic players aren't fit to lace the boots of these past great legendary players. Make no mistake about it but Celtic are there for the taking. Bring the new season on and let's exactly see how this doesn't go to script RE: Scottish Football - dan g 27 - 18-07-2012 16:58 Well I agree SB, this is probably one of the weakest Celtic teams ever seen. But, the question is are the other teams able to match Celtic? Celtic may not be strong, but they still have the best players in the SPL. It will be interesting to see what teams like Dundee United do in the transfer market RE: Scottish Football - bigguy01 - 19-07-2012 18:06 (17-07-2012 21:04 )BgLugs Wrote: Has an extra team been promoted from Div. 3 to 2 and from Div. 2 to 1 to even up the numbers. Their membership of the SFA still isn't secured as the SPL have to agree it and they want a cut of any tv rights Rangers/SFL secure to offset their own tv revenue losses. Newco Rangers are also holding out for an end to any further investigations into the oldco, while the SPL seem intent on continuing those investigations, and imposing further sanctions such as removal of titles won whilst using illegal payment contracts. Meanwhile, Sale Sharks boss Kennedy claims to be still interested in securing a controlling interest in the newco. Quite why he'd want to be throwing good money in at this point is beyond me, but each to their own I guess! Looking on very much from the sidelines, there does seem to be a growing disquiet with Greens leadership, with a couple other bids for majority shares allegedly having been made. I wouldn't be surprised if he steps aside sooner rather than later, probably with his wallet still intact, while all the oldco debtors continue to whistle for their money! RE: Scottish Football - Doddle - 30-07-2012 11:27 I see not-Rangers scraped a win yesterday. But never mind that, East bloody Stirling beat Ayr 3-1 in their Cup match on Saturday! RE: Scottish Football - HannahsPet - 31-07-2012 18:18 Seems Sky have done deal with SPL 5 year deal worth 80 million over 5 years http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19070877?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter |
