They keep Alice's slots open as long as they can, even when they aren't expecting her in, and every time they only replace her at the last minute. The reason they do this is to make sure that each scheduled slot is still available for Alice if it turns out that she's actually ready to come to work again.

I think Alice has taken over from Dannii Harwood as Miss BABESTATION, whatever she wants she's allowed to do and that I would suggest now stretches to when she appears on screen or not-mind you another train of thought could be she is having a break or a holiday.
