Hundreds dead at a music festival, Women raped, murdered and paraded on Twitter for all to see, Children kidnapped and even a pensioner taken hostage and broadcast to the world. A massive own goal by Hamas, egged on by the scum in Tehran and possibly Moscow. What comes next will be very nasty and there won't be much sympathy other than from Corbyn and his ilk.

Trump like candidate Javier Milei wins the run off for the Argentinian presidential election

Michael Reid, a professor at LSE & author of The Forgotten Continent: A history of new Latin America, shared these initial thoughts on Twitter:

"It conforms to the Latin American pattern of anti-incumbency, turbocharged in this case by the abject failure of Kirchnerist Peronism over the past decade. They have no policy answers to fix the economy. But does he?

Milei won because he chanelled the anger and frustration of many Argentines at that failure, and the clientelist-subsidy system that lies behind it. But he can't govern as a mere disruptor. He has very little experience, not much of a team, and looks psychologically fragile.

His main economic proposals, dollarisation, shutting the Central Bank and massive public spending cuts are inoperable. He may have to let the "adults", in this case ex-president Mauricio Macri, run a lot of things. But how would that work?

Quick measures to curb the deficit, stabilise the peso and build confidence would help. Some think Milei will be an authoritarian president. Will he have the authority to be authoritarian? Cacophony, anger on the streets and a short-lived government are as likely

In any event, Latin America will have a new Trump-admirer in government. His victory is a headache for Lula and Brazil, and leaves the future of Mercosur uncertain. As for Sergio Massa, he was the least bad candidate for Peronism, and surely has a future."
