RE: UFC - mitchell - 16-11-2013 14:31

UFC 20th anniversary, wow I didn't even know. Shy

I'm looking forward to Rory MacDonald vs. Robbie Lawler, this is one of those fight of the night written all over it fights. I think Evans v Sonnen will be pretty boring, Rashad needs a good win though. I hope Brian Ebersole destroys 'boring Story'!

RE: UFC - groundnpound - 16-11-2013 15:11

MacDonald vs Lawler could be a great fight mate, a real tear up while it lasts... Think there could be a KO in the first round, could come from either fighter, tough call that fight. I'll go for MacDonald though.

Evans finishes Sonnen for me, like u said mate, he needs a big performance. The same could be said for Sonnen as well. Two experienced fighters... Could be a stalemate but could also be fireworks!! If Evans has any of the old sparkle left he wins this by TKO i think, if not then Sonnen takes it. I'm going for Evans though, TKO.

Quality fights from 1am right the way through, should be a great night. Smile

The following is the reported payout to the fighters as reported to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. It does not include sponsor money and also does not include the UFC's traditional "fight night" bonuses.

Rashad Evans: $250,000 (includes $125,000 win bonus) def. Chael Sonnen: $100,000

Rick Story: $54,000 (includes $27,000 win bonus) def. Brian Ebersole: $18,000
Erik Perez: $36,000 (includes $18,000 win bonus) def. Edwin Figueroa: $12,000
Jason High: $30,000 (includes $15,000 win bonus) def. Anthony Lapsley: $8,000
Sergio Pettis: $16,000 (includes $8,000 win bonus) def. Will Campuzano: $10,000
Gian Villante: $38,000 (includes $19,000 win bonus) def. Cody Donovan: $8,000

I hope Johny Hendricks v Robbie Lawler happens, whatever it's for it would be a top fight.

Having worked his way to number 10 in the rankings Jimi Manuwa will now face Alexander Gustafsson at UFC Fight Night March 8th at The O2 Arena. I don't understand this fight as many think Gustafsson is now the unofficial light heavyweight champion.

RE: UFC - Crayzion - 22-11-2013 18:28

I thought Hendricks was unlucky last week vs GSP! At the time i thought he won 3 rounds to 2 but i guess it comes down to the 1st round and who you give that to. Thought Hendricks deserved it though.

That Lawler vs McDonald fight was something else. All credit to Lawler! No idea what's going on with McDonald though. He was supposed to be the next in line after GSP at one point. The heir apparent.

RE: UFC - groundnpound - 22-11-2013 19:25

Georges deserved his win for me mate, gave him rounds 1,3 and 5. I wasn't going to talk about the fight until we found out what personal problems he's having but we might never find out?

He took some hard shots from Hendricks but showed the heart and guts of a true legend to come through it, finish strongly and win the fight. Hendricks on the other side of the cage thought it was in the bag, was stood there singing a song to himself before the 5th... Georges knew he had to win the last round. GSP showed us a side of himself we haven't really seen in the octagon, he had to dig really deep and drag himself through, it was a performance of a great champion, he's THE ultimate fighter, a warrior.

Toughest fight of GSP's career but the problems he's having didn't help him any, he didn't look right from the ring walk onwards last weekend but had enough to get through. That was Hendricks' best chance to beat him, if GSP gets things sorted out and gets his head right again he'll beat Hendricks a lot more comfortably next time.

RE: UFC - mitchell - 24-11-2013 15:21

I know as far as the judges go you have to come away from a decision with the champion looking like he was hanging on for the last 2 rounds with one of the other 3 having gone either way but some of these results are pretty shabby. The majority thought both GSP & Jon Jones lost their fights, I can somewhat see a case for GSP but still thought the decision should've gone the other way. The Jones decision however was pathetic.

I've only seen the GSP fight once & with the way it was going was hoping for a change in champion for a few fights, this is the total opposite of how the judges watch a fight with no feeling either way (Hopefully) so score the little tight exchanges differently.

This is the current rankings.

If Carlos Condit beats Matt Brown at UFC on Fox 9, 14 December, I can see Hendricks v Condit 2 for the vacant welterweight belt.
Johny Hendricks fights out of Dallas Texas, UFC 171 is scheduled there on March 15. If Condit doesn't win or isn't impressive Robbie Lawler could get his chance?

The UFC have talked about spreading worldwide next year, here's a few cities on the cards.
TBA 2014 TBA Glasgow, Scotland
TBA 2014 TBA Malmö, Sweden
TBA 2014 TBA Berlin, Germany
TBA 2014 TBA Istanbul, Turkey
TBA Oct 2014 Arena Łódź Łódź, Poland
TBA May 2014 The O2, Dublin Dublin, Ireland
TBA Mar 2014 CotaiArena Macau, China

RE: UFC - groundnpound - 24-11-2013 16:09

GSP shaded the 3 rounds he won, whereas Hendricks won rounds 2 and 4 convincingly, landing big shots. That's where I think, to the untrained eye, it looked to some as if Hendricks was the winner. But it's not how the judges see it, if you win 3 rounds of a 5 rounder and it goes the distance, you're the winner.

I think they've pencilled GSP/Hendricks 2 in for UFC 171 mate, Dallas Cowboys stadium. Dana White mentioned it in the post fight presser.
