Weren't they sayimg they were trying to find a way to disturb social media or something? They have to v careful because innocent people's messages could be disturbed by accident and that may mean people facing wrongful arrest. Not only that they'll get a real test on hallowe'en if they do make wearing a mask an offence.
What happens about wearing masks and costumes then?

The government aren't proposing to make the wearing of masks an offence. They are proposing to make it an offence to refuse to remove a mask if removal has been requested by the police.

After looking at those pictures, is it any wonder any of those guys get pulled or searched by Police ? They all look like a bunch of wrong'uns.

On a serious note though, and this is my personal theory (and possibly the part where I start being known as a conspiracy nut)...

I believe the government have wanted something like this to happen, something big to justify us living in a Police state, something big to push for stealth taxes in forms of ID cards, extra Policing, increases in CCTV, new laws to infringe our privacy. The ultimate dream in my opinion is for a big brother type Police state where everybody's movements are monitored, and we all become drones for the machine. It has already started to be implemented in subtle ways, credit cards can trace steps, as can these "smart" phones with free GPS tracking! Social networking sites with information and pictures of people, and updates announcing where they re and what they are thinking or going to do next.
Obviously I don't believe they instigated this, nor do I think they wanted it to play out like this, but if forms of our freedom start to be encroached then my theory will start to become a little more water tight.

Already questions are being raised about social networking sites, BBM (or whatever it's called), people are wanting (me included) Police to be heavier handed in these situations. But by the Police standing back in the first place which lead to this mess, it kind of strengthens their position in passing such laws, or introducing news ones. A kind of freeform scare tactic if you will.

All I will say is as angry as I was/am about the whole rioting, it will everyday people who will suffer not only the hike in taxes, but an infringement in our personal privacy too. It just a shame these retards are the ones who got the ball rolling with no political point to be made instead of making a stand about the way we get shafted in this country.

new laws restricting freedom always get passed after tradedy or major civil unrest. the best and most recent example would be 9/11 and the passing of the patriot act.

Sky News interviewed a gang member involved in the riots and the gang member said "We had no choice, it's societies fault".
All can say is, Fuck off about having no choice. Maybe, I should go hunt these gang members down, remove them from society on permanent level and use that excuse when i'm in the dock for mass-murder thenlaugh
They can't blame anyone other themselves and if it was up to me, i'd send them to Afghanistan to see what real harsh living is like.

Just had a good walk around Manchester city centre this afternoon. It was as busy as it usually is, and there did not seem to be much damage. Not many shop windows were boarded up. Picked up a free copy of the Manchester Evening News. They had a front page with pic of rioters who have been jailed
http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/s/1455534_shamed-more-faces-of-those-who-ran-riot-in-manchester-and-salford
and a couple of pages inside with details including names and addresses of over 50 others who have been in court.
The pics look like a right load of criminals. Smile

I saw that, and when asked whether or not he had and guilt about what he'd done, one rioter responded with "Nope, cause I'm watching my new plasma TV for free", or something like that.
