RE: Coronavirus - is enough being done to contain it? - hornball - 08-04-2021 11:08 Reports suggest Prof C Whitty has threatened to resign (what difference it would make?? who knows) if Johnson pursues another rush to ease lockdown measures. As I read it, there may be as many as 30 000 more deaths if measures that have been - at the very least - put forward as possible/probable, are implemented in easing restrictions. It is unbelievable that the top scientific advisor is having to threaten 'nuclear' should Johnson be so irresponsible again!! We must all hope that he sees sense and does the right thing! or is stopped through legal redress. RE: Coronavirus - is enough being done to contain it? - Charlemagne - 08-04-2021 14:36 Modelling by University College London says that the UK will achieve herd immunity on Monday. They worked it out that when we reach 73.4% from vaccine and through having antibodies from having the virus. However the offical view from SAGE is that we could have a 3rd wave in July. RE: Coronavirus - is enough being done to contain it? - winsaw - 08-04-2021 14:43 this is good news BRITAIN will achieve herd immunity from Covid next week through the vaccine rollout and the number of people who've recovered from Covid, it's reported. Modelling by University College London (UCL) shows 73.4 per cent of Brits will have protection from the virus by April 12 The herd immunity threshold is expected to be reached by Monday, with people protected by antibodies either through vaccination or previous infection. But modelling by Imperial College London released this week suggested the number of Brits who were protected was 34 per cent. As Britain's vaccine rollout roars on, with more than 31.7 million jabbed, the number of people who have died with Covid has plunged almost 50 per cent in a month. Another 45 deaths were recorded yesterday, with infections sinking 46 per cent month-on-month, after another 2,763 cases were reported on Wednesday. Prof Karl Friston, of UCL, said: "The herd immunity estimates surprised me. However, they are unremarkable when one considers that over 50 per cent of adults have been vaccinated, around 42 per cent of people have now been exposed to the virus and about 10 per cet have pre-existing immunity. "When factoring in the estimated efficacy of vaccination in terms of sterilising immunity, this – according to the model – means about 70 per cent of the population are immune. "Based upon contact rates at the beginning of the pandemic and estimated transmission risk, this is nearly at the herd immunity threshold." I wonder if Merkel and her French puppet still want to buy it. RE: Coronavirus - is enough being done to contain it? - lovebabes56 - 08-04-2021 15:50 Apparently Hancockup and experts have DISMISSED findings that we will reach herd immunity next week they say the findings are 'inconsistent'...
