The Mongoose bat hasn't been that popular, apart from Worcestershire's Gareth Andrews I can't think of another player in our game that uses one.Matthew Hayden used one in the IPL before he retired.

I has a massive sweetspot but a lot less surface area of batface,so you can end up missing more than you hit.

Cracking T20 Quarter Final tonight Hampshire beating Lancashire by 1 run.Plenty happening in this one a Carberry making a fine hundred, srabbling the 2 runs he needed off the final ball of the innings.Umpire Mallender getting hit by the ball, the sprinklers coming on when Hampshire were fielding & Lancashire needing 4 off the last ball just coming up short.

Australia can't stand to be beaten..
Channel 9 have broadcast that Kevin Pietersen has been cheating by putting silicone tape on his bat to stop hotspots showing on his bat..

Kevin has denied cheating and the ECB has demanded an apoligy.

Kevin has also said "How stupid would I be to try to hide a nick when it could save me on an lbw appeal, like in the first innings where Hot Spot showed I nicked it."

Tape has always been used by batsman to repair favourate bats from further damage.

^ KP also said if he nicks it he walks, which is half true, sometimes he walks other times he doesn't.Even Broad walked in the last Test.Unless you walk every time you edge the ball there's no point.

The silicone allegation is absolutely ridiculous ,like KP points out why would you benefit from being given out LBW when hotspot fails to pick up an edge due to silicone masking the contact of the ball on bat .Obviously some "journalist" has discovered silicone neutralises the hotspot technology and is muckraking .I'm pleased players on both sides have been quoted that they don't believe the other team are trying to cheat .
The whole DRS decision fiasco so far in this Ashes series is down to a set of incompetent on & off-field umpires .They desperately need a crash course in common sense !

From time to time a certain RGD Willis relates tales of his batting "exploits" with a bat he used in the 70's/80's. Named "The Run Reaper" ,apparently it was like a traditional bat but was riddled with holes drilled through the bat's face .This he says was to help it move quicker through the air ,due to there being less wind resistance .Think Bob said it was made by Duncan Fearnley .Needless to say , "The Run Reaper" never took off .

I remember the Lillee bat incident very well... didn't last very long did it? when you think about if willow trees were to die out, there would have to be suitable wood or a suitable replacement to make cricket bats from!! I seem to recall graham gooch had one of the heaviest bats around too

I'm sure Dr Grace never walked!! I think walking is one of those issues you have to deal with on a personal level. I would say if you walk it shows you are being honest.

Rumour has it that when WG was bowled by some young upstart for nougat that he just carried on his innings. Saying to the opponent the people have come to watch me bat not you bowl son.

RE: Cricket Banter - lovebabes56 - 14-08-2013 10:06

That's what I thought Jack!! But like I said walking is a personal thing I suppose the only reason not to walk if you feel you have not made an edge.
remember the storm over KP last time we were in Aussie and Ponting got irate?
