RE: Scottish Football - Doddle - 18-05-2024 20:20 I'm obviously dead pleased that Hamilton actually got it done, and will be playing the likes of Livingston and - YES! - Dunfermline next year. A shame about East Kilbride, they seem to have been pushing at that league door for years. It's the old cliche about the longest cup competition again... RE: Scottish Football - Doddle - 19-05-2024 20:43 St Johnstone managed to edge ahead of Ross County, who now face the final play-off ignominy. Given that Celtic took to the penultimate game to be confirmed champs, they still managed to win by 8 points, which shows how close it wasn't. RE: Scottish Football - Doddle - 26-05-2024 20:12 Ross County clearly don't know the meaning of the word ignominy, because they pasted Raith Rovers good & proper. What a waste of everybody's bloody time these play-offs are. RE: Scottish Football - southsidestu - 27-05-2024 18:43 As a Rangers fan i am disappointed by the end of our season but not disheartened The way i looked at it, at the start of the season Celtic had a squad that had just won back to back leagues and a veteran manager who had won with them before as well as PL experience vs a sqaud that had had a lot of ins and outs and a manager that had only had one season of full management under his belt, Celtic were always favourites Then when Beale got the sack so early on and with us so far adrift i felt the season was over then and there. For Clement to come in during the campaign, no preseason, with a squad that was not his & bring about a near 10 point swing and get us to the latter stages of Europe by beating Betis (managed by PL title winning Pellegrini) away it was a remarkable achievement. It was in our hands and we let it go and thats on us and fair play to Celtic for rescuing it but they did so from a position they never should of been in and had only theirselves to blame for Having won 3 leagues in a row in Belgium and the impact he had on us when he first got here i feel that Clement is the real deal, something that numerous fans of other teams has told me, if the board back him in the transfer market i think we could be in for a good season but we also need to get over our Old Firm duck Moving away from Rangers i am hopeful, after a good end to the season that Jimmy Thelin will be able to turn Aberdeen's fortunes around and get them challenging for Europe be it Europa or Conference where hopefully they can go on & do some good for the coefficient and Scottish pride on a more international scale RE: Scottish Football - Doddle - 28-05-2024 20:27 The Lost Final BBC Scotland did this in 2022, might be on OchAyePlayer Pat Nevin was part of Scotland's Euro 82 Youth winning team, and has spent the intervening years wondering why there was so little coverage of this triumph. He talks to surviving team-mates (and even manager Andy Roxburgh, who'd I'd have assumed was dead (he's not, he's 80 apparently)). After contacting telly companies across Europe, he finally finds 40 seconds of highlights from Prague (Czechoslovakia, as was, were the team Scotland beat 3-1). A heart-warming story. RE: Scottish Football - Doddle - 03-06-2024 13:03 Icons of Football: Frank McAvennie BBC Scotland come up trumps again. Frank seems content these days, and wistful of his highs and lows. Tony Cottee and Mick McCarthy reflected on how he was a lively risk but worth taking. It was fun while it lasted. RE: Scottish Football - Doddle - 05-07-2024 13:00 The Women Who Built Glasgow City Carol Anne Stewart and Laura Montgomery met and decided they could do better than existing clubs, and eventually got together a side which won the league for 13 times in a row (at the time of this pre-pandemic doc). But the success of Glasgow City seems to be viewed as raising the stakes for everyone, in a good way. In more predictable news, East Stirling got battered 4-1 at Hearts B last night, but I think they did at least score the first goal of the season for that division ![]() |
