It has to be Tony Feguson now, he has the greatest claim and most likely the best chance too.

But I can see a McGregor vs Khabib rematch though, purely based on per-per-view sales alone. But McGregor will need to put some serious work in especially on his grappling and cardio.

Any thoughts on Askren returning, and Whittaker Vs Adesanya?

I definitely agree with this. Khabib needs to beat Tony to be crowned the true king of the lightweight division. Without Tony's scalp, Khabib's dominance will always have a large question mark against it.
The fight is rumoured for December the 14th at UFC 245.

Which would be a great fight. Let's hope it doesn't fall through like it has done so before, because it would be the fight that has needed to happen for a very long time. It would be the scalp that Khabib needs most to be honest and as you say without it mate, his dominance of the lightweight division will always have mark against it if him & Ferguson never met. And I do still believe Tony will give him the fright of his life and there would be a massive shockwave in the lightweight division if Ferguson dethroned him. Khabib's record is second to none and probably puts him very near the top of the UFC P4P rankings.

Khabib is still saying he wants to fight GSP even though the Canadian is currently retired.
GSP's last fight was almost 2 years ago now in 2017 (after a four year retirement) against Michael Bisping and he is 38 years old.
So I'm not sure what this would prove? GSP is surely past his best even if he were to accept which I doubt.

The Khabib vs Tony saga has been going on for years now. It has been arranged four times and with both fighters having withdrawn equally due to injuries.

Khabib is talking like he is merely overlooking Tony for what he considers a real challenge.
I say it looks like he's trying to dodge the real challenge which of course with all things considered isn't GSP Rolleyes

I'm fairly sure Dana White knows what the fans really want and will make it happen.

Justin Gaethje beat the Cowboy by TKO in Vancouver in first round, in the early hours. I think it was pretty much the correct call, having seeing that punch land flush, and Cowboy couldn't defend himself. let's hope he's not out for too long if it is seen as a KO win.
Gaethje V McGregor would be a great fight as both have similar styles, but I think if he was to beat McGregor he'd have to take on Poirier to get that title shot. Or if Ferguson was to beat Khabib, would he give Gaethje a shot?

It would have to be a huge carrot to tempt GSP, and I would say while it would be a huge UFC event, GSP would for me be way past his best as well, but I think if it turns out that Khabib won't or refuses to fight Ferguson, then Dana has to strip him of the title and make a Ferguson V McGregor fight for the vacant title.

Israel won the UFC middleweight title after a 2nd rd TKO stoppage of Robert Whittaker

i was right then, jones v reyes announcement is imminent. after he demolished weidman last month and still undefeated it's only right, could have easily given him the jones fight before now though. blachowicz had his chance to make a statement last weekend against 15 ranked jacare but put on a terrible performance so they have gone with reyes it seems. interesting fight jones v reyes is. you have to wonder what would be next for jones if he beats reyes, especially if he beats him convincingly. there just isn't anyone else afterwards. corey anderson maybe since he is now top 5 after beating johnny walker but the jones fight is in february and then he will likely rest for months after. so he would be looking at a very long wait if he gets the shot at jones. he could stay active in the meantime but that would be risky if he was to lose and fall down the rankings. plenty of competition under jones but it's his division. maybe time for him to move up if he beats reyes. see how it plays out in february, looking forward to this fight

RE: UFC - Don Tingley - 28-11-2019 20:34

mcgregor v cowboy cerrone announcement incoming apparently, january 18th, will be a good scrap that.
money wise it's huge for cerrone but all pressure is on mcgregor. he clearly doesn't need this for the money, i imagine he's wanting to get back on top and get the khabib rematch if he wins this or a fight with ferguson if ferguson beats khabib. good start to next year

edit - it's at welterweight, didn't see that coming. maybe not khabib rematch then. could be testing him at 170 to see how he does and then set up a fight with him against masvidal if he wins. there's no way mcgregor is just randomly fight cerrone without a future plan, would make no sense

RE: UFC - lovebabes56 - 04-12-2019 06:32

McGregor Vs Cerrone confirmed for Jan 18 And like you say mate it will be a good scrap but I think many of us secretly hope Cerrone shuts up McGregor which probably won't happen, as I think by round 3 Cerrone will be either stopped or knocked out. But if Cerrone causes an upset then that puts a different perspective of things. Then I can't see why White can't make the winner of that fight take on the winner of Khabib Vs Ferguson down the line at some point, and I would certainly think a Masvidal V McGregor clash would have some appeal to test McGregor further then see where his priorities lie. But I do have a sneaking suspicion that if Khabib beats Ferguson, he'll probably retire, but will come out of retirement to fight McGregor in some kind of legacy fight rather than a championship fight, but then would leave the division open for McGregor to reclaim vacant, but what Dana has to be firm about is that McGregor holding the title to ransom and not fight when he doesn't want to fight. He has to make to him agree to take on whoever holds that challenger spot. If Ferguson was to beat Khabib, I doubt if McGregor would show little interest in the fight as I'd think he would avoid Ferguson if he was champ.
