RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - dan g 27 - 11-06-2012 12:31 Reflecting on the Irish defeat last night, its clear we need a revamp of how we run the game in Ireland and how we play the game. We need a certain philosophy to stick with throughout all age groups in Irish football. Our domestic league is really poor, all the teams play hoof ball Stoke City style football and its not encouraging players to be better technically. Something needs to be done or we will fall behind other countries RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - HannahsPet - 11-06-2012 12:33 do any of the team play in the irish league ? was good to see keith andrews work hard dont know why he got farmed out to other clubs at rovers he prob worked more in last nights game than some of the rovers midfield have worked all season ![]() RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - dan g 27 - 11-06-2012 12:34 (11-06-2012 12:33 )HannahsPet Wrote: do any of the team play in the irish league ?None, there all scattered in the English and Scottish leagues and one is in Russia RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - 7 stars of the orient - 11-06-2012 12:37 (11-06-2012 12:34 )dan g 27 Wrote: None, there all scattered in the English and Scottish leagues and one is in Russia And one is in the USA (Robbie Keane). RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - terence - 11-06-2012 12:52 you have to remember we only have a population of 4.5 million. i think we've worked miracles with what we've got! compare the italy 90 squad with what we have now. 1. Packie Bonner 2. Chris Morris 3. Steve Staunton 4. Mick McCarthy 5. Kevin Moran 6. Ronnie Whelan 7. Paul McGrath 8. Ray Houghton 9. John Aldridge 10. Tony Cascarino 11. Kevin Sheedy 12. David O'Leary 13. Andy Townsend 14. Chris Hughton 15. Bernie Slaven 16. John Sheridan 17. Niall Quinn 18. Frank Stapleton 19. David Kelly 20. John Byrne 21. Alan McLoughlin 22. Gerry Peyton we got used to the purple patch we were in and we had some great years but we have to be realistic, we can't have squads of that quality every tournament we enter. but let's be positive, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that we could get a result against the world and European champions, is it? ![]() RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - dan g 27 - 11-06-2012 13:08 Well the players will go out there against Spain and think we have nothing to lose and so we might as well go all out and win. Its possible, it could happen, we're no strangers to giant killings in international football RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - Stillroom Rock - 11-06-2012 13:16 No one gave Northern Ireland a chance against Spain in 82 a looked what happened RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - HannahsPet - 11-06-2012 13:18 yeah usa 94 game with Italy ray houghton goal just takes one flukey shot ![]() RE: 2012 UEFA European Championship - broncobilly10 - 11-06-2012 13:33 Hopefully we will play against Spain good thing is with the open way they play we will get chances.
