Reflecting on the Irish defeat last night, its clear we need a revamp of how we run the game in Ireland and how we play the game. We need a certain philosophy to stick with throughout all age groups in Irish football. Our domestic league is really poor, all the teams play hoof ball Stoke City style football and its not encouraging players to be better technically. Something needs to be done or we will fall behind other countries

you have to remember we only have a population of 4.5 million. i think we've worked miracles with what we've got! compare the italy 90 squad with what we have now.

1. Packie Bonner
2. Chris Morris
3. Steve Staunton
4. Mick McCarthy
5. Kevin Moran
6. Ronnie Whelan
7. Paul McGrath
8. Ray Houghton
9. John Aldridge
10. Tony Cascarino
11. Kevin Sheedy
12. David O'Leary
13. Andy Townsend
14. Chris Hughton
15. Bernie Slaven
16. John Sheridan
17. Niall Quinn
18. Frank Stapleton
19. David Kelly
20. John Byrne
21. Alan McLoughlin
22. Gerry Peyton

we got used to the purple patch we were in and we had some great years but we have to be realistic, we can't have squads of that quality every tournament we enter.

but let's be positive, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that we could get a result against the world and European champions, is it? Smile

Well the players will go out there against Spain and think we have nothing to lose and so we might as well go all out and win. Its possible, it could happen, we're no strangers to giant killings in international football
