I'd have prefered the money to have been better used on the NHS in the UK.

I would have to wonder if Iran's attack on Israel was a move also designed to suck in any western allies into a war that it can't escape from

RE: International News Stories - skully - 14-04-2024 19:27

May have been a test to see how quickly everyone reacted, to give Iran an idea of what would be needed in future, or to make Israel escalate things.
Some in Israel want to see retaliation for this, where as America are saying the defence should be seen as a win and they won't help in a direct attack on Iran.

Fuck knows what'll happen next.

The big elephant in the room of course is arms sales to a variety of nations of varying levels of dubious repute.
But no western governments want to talk about that. Quelle surprise Rolleyes.

Slovakian Prime Minister shot in "Assassination Attempt"

RE: International News Stories - lovebabes56 - 15-05-2024 19:41

Doesn't this resemble (in a way) the asassination of Archduke Ferdinand?

I hope history isn't repeating itself.

No. Fico is a populist who is bum chums with Orban of Hungary, not exactly got the best interests of his country at heart, had to resign previously due to the protests surrounding the murder of a journo that was investigating corruption. This is down to the fact that political rivals and others online have been spreading hate, it's like if Trump pushed hard enough and it resulted in somebody he sees as an enemy ending up injured or dead, shouldn't spark a world war, but will possibly lead to civil unrest, if the situation isn't handled properly.

My take is from a skim of several articles, so take from that what you wish.

I think Russia are still the most likely to spark a world war, moreso if America elect Trump, with all his diplomatic skills and willingness to roll over for Putin. In his tiny mind, Ukraine should give up, which would give Putin a green light to go all out, which then pushes Nato to step in, so... Rolleyes

Not that Putin isn't pushing his luck already with his neighbours.
