RE: Ofcom Discussion - eccles - 13-09-2013 01:28 In a startling turn, Ofcom is investigating if Bauer Media is "fit and proper" to hold a broadcasting licence. Their crime? Publication of a magazine in Germany that might be less than critical of German soldiers in the second world war. Offensive to UK tastes? Possibly (I havent seen it). Illegal in Germany, which has strict anti Nazi laws? No. Illegal in the UK? No. Rather than throw out complaints, Ofcom is launching what will may be a lengthy investigation that will be costly to both it and the publisher, on the grounds that something lawful done in another part of a media empire in another country might offensive. Wonder how many other multinational broadcasters would stand up to the same level of scrutiny? Apparently they got a slap from Ofcom for a striptease routine shown pre-watershed. No fine or similar sanction that I'm aware of, just a stiff telling off from Ofcom ... that should have them quivering in their boots Scarlett Cuffs on BGT, ITV2. Crap picture quality. Closing date 27/09/2013 with interviews in November. The current post holder is Colette Bowe, who was appointed Chairman on 11 March 2009 for 5 years. She has announced her decision to step down in March 2014 at the end of her term. The previous chairman was David Currie. Candidate Brief RE: Ofcom Discussion - continental19 - 13-09-2013 20:34 Ok Everyone i'm going to call this post: is it worth the risk? We all no that Ofcom haven't bothered with the babe channels for ages, i can't even recall when they last investigated one of the channels which as we no is good news, however the main reason for this is down to the fact that the shows have tamed right down, and the other main factor is that the babe channels haven't been complaining to Ofcom what there other there rival channels are doing!! Things appear to be very quiet on the western front, which had me thinking the other day, is it time to for the channels to push the content a little further i.e. 241 action? while things are so quiet with ofcom. Now i agree there will be some channels which are happy with there call volume so they might think to themselves why bother to risk it, however there might be some channels which might think to themselves, that while its very quiet, why not try and go for some harder content. In otherwords they could see this as a calculated risk I'm not saying for one moment that the channels should risk fines etc etc, all i'm saying is that if some of the channels want to push the rules while it's quiet then this time is as good as any time to try it. Let me no what you guys think Thankyou RE: Ofcom Discussion - Scottishbloke - 13-09-2013 21:42 From time to time we do see the channels pushing it slightly more but no sooner do you get the feeling that more risky shows will be coming it's then bang and straight down again. The only channel out there that might be the most likely one to take any risks would probably be Babestation, but in saying that RLC has been known to take a few risks from time to time too with some daring 2 for 1's but it's never going to be consistent for as long as ofcom remain in office. To be perfectly honest I'm not really as interested anymore or obsessed about what might happen in the future as I know after so many years of hopes that to wish for something more will always end in disappointment. I noticed that Storm for example recently brought back the gaffa tape thong but yet again that idea seems to have been abandoned probably due to the what if there is a slip and ofcom see it mentality. To answer your question continental yes the shows will take risks from time to time but just don't expect it be a given all the time. Always be prepared to be surprised and disappointed. Excellent post, SB. The above paragraph has an inevitable truth to it. Also, this forum's a lot quieter and less entertaining than it was, but that's just a reflection on the channels. There's just nothing to talk about, and most regular posters have gone completely or post far less than they did. I wonder if this forum was started now, rather than in 2008, how long it would last? A few weeks probably. RE: Ofcom Discussion - Scottishbloke - 14-09-2013 01:47 I must admit that there used to be a time where I'd just have to make a post or a rant about ofcom, these days I simply cannot be arsed other than the odd fleeting post, it's not that I don't care anymore, it's just that these discussions now are just exasperating me. Like eccles and many others have already pointed out too is that just because ofcom is quiet at the moment it doesn't necessary mean that they have accepted this type of entertainment, infact they haven't and never will. With regards to forum banter these days, I also agree that the humour has somewhat dried up, with regards to how long would this forum last if it started today and not 5 years ago, thats debatable as we are getting new members every day but what I have noticed is that it's getting pretty thin on the ground to recruit any new members that can add much value to this place other than the very rare few. Another thing I've noticed lately is that this forum is rife with clique mentality, it's not as open as it used to be, a lot of spiteful and insulting posts towards other members has really reared its ugly head. The latest attack on me is yet another fake twitter account, I am trying my best to get this closed down but it's proving difficult. Lastly and I hope I don't get into trouble for saying this but is there any chance that the mods might just allow Stantheman back, he's sorely missed, ok he was somebody who wasn't exactly everybodys cup of tea, I used to agree and disagree with him too on occasions but he was good for this forum when it came to a really good debate. Stantheman fucked up by overstepping the mark by reposting the same comments after it was removed by the mods so he broke forum rules but believe you me he wasn't really a spiteful guy deep down, just a little bit misunderstood and probably just got caught up in the heat of the moment. I know that the majority of this post is completely off-topic but theres a lot of things that I'm just not happy or comfortable with at the moment which I just had to get off my chest. Oh and PS - Fuck Ofcom RE: Ofcom Discussion - Digital Dave - 14-09-2013 02:10 I haven't noticed the cliques on the forum but I'm not around much. I'd like to see Stan back as well! I've noticed that he still views the forum regularly (last visit was on 5th Sept) and I didn't think that was possible if you were banned. Forgive him mods! |
