I like your choices a lot actually and the zamora slection stands out mostly for me but I just think a world cup is the wrong place to give a player his 1st chance. I'd love to think zamora could take his league form into a world cup but he has always struggled with pressure. On the other hand etherington is somebody who has always stepped up and performed regardless of what competition he has faced and were it not for his severe gambling addiction, I think he may have got his chance a little earlier because his pace and final ball are 2nd to none. He is an incredibly underated player. RE: Your England World Cup Squad! - jimbo5030 - 26-03-2010 22:53 (26-03-2010 19:17 )Bring bk Minnie Wrote: David James must be in goal. How can anyone trust Green in goal is beyond me never looks comfortable wearing the England shirt very over rated by Fabio. I know your probably screaming well James isn't exactly consistent can make a few howlers yes we know that but on his day he can be unbeatable and make some amazing world class saves I'm sorry for that previous post, that was out of order, I've had a shit day and just taken it out on you. Everybody is entitled to their opinion and I respect your own. The only argument I have is that although I agree, on his day David James is unbeatable, I also think that has been the case for his whole career but yet he still let's his fans down when it matters most. (The France game sticks in the memory.) And I think at 40 its not fair on younger england keepers who have a chance of being a regular for England for many years to come to lose their place to a tempermental keeper who has no confidence at the moment and half the ability he used to. Sorry again for the abuse, I'm a knob sometimes, a lot of people on the forum will tell u I'm sure. RE: Your England World Cup Squad! - Deadman 30 - 28-03-2010 15:43 With all the injury problems / absences in defence, does that give Jamie Carragher a chance of being picked? I can't remember if he's injured aswell still... anyone confirm? RE: Your England World Cup Squad! - dewster99 - 28-03-2010 18:47 GKs: James, Hart, Green (don't know why Fabio keeps picking Green but prefer his expereince over Foster even as a Utd fan) Defence: Johnson, Rio, Terry, Cole, Baines (way better than warnock), Shawcross, Upson Midfield: Walcott, Gerrard, Lampard, Cole, Young, Milner, Carrick, Barry (rather have Hargreaves over Barry and Carrick but doubt he'll have the time and no games for england before hand, could also fill in at RB as can Milner) Strikers: Rooney, Crouch, Defoe, Cole, Bent or Heskey, most likely Heskey although I much prefer Cole in that role as he'll score goals too rather than just hold it up RE: Your England World Cup Squad! - jimbo5030 - 28-03-2010 19:52 (28-03-2010 18:42 )Deadman 30 Wrote:(28-03-2010 17:01 )colino Wrote:(28-03-2010 15:43 )Deadman 30 Wrote: With all the injury problems / absences in defence, does that give Jamie Carragher a chance of being picked? Retired from international football mate, refused to come back when Capello took over. Got upset at always being overlooked in central defence which is understandable because he has always been consistent for Liverpool. If he saved a penalty to get us through a tough match you wouldn't give a toss that he was Italian. If i remember right soon after he was made eligible to play for England the Italy manager but him on the bench in an international friendly the bastard , was a massive fan of Carlo back in his Chelsea days Speaking of eligiblity, (and no one mention Almunia!), Arteta is available to play for England http://footballsup.com/2010/03/arteta-for-england/ Not a big fan of foriegn players playing for England personally but what a player that guy is - he would easily make the squad, if not the first team RE: Your England World Cup Squad! - Phoenix - 28-03-2010 20:37 (28-03-2010 19:52 )jimbo5030 Wrote:(28-03-2010 18:42 )Deadman 30 Wrote:(28-03-2010 17:01 )colino Wrote:(28-03-2010 15:43 )Deadman 30 Wrote: With all the injury problems / absences in defence, does that give Jamie Carragher a chance of being picked? There are numerous reasons...... 1: 'Cos he's not good enough. 2: 'Cos he threw all of his toys out of the pram years ago when he quit playing for his country because he couldn't get "his favourite spot" in front of Terry or Ferdinand. 3. 'Cos he's not good enough. 4. 'Cos this season he's having (by his own admission) "the worst season of my life" at centre back, so much so, that until recently Liverpool shoved him out to right back, where he was less of a liability. 5. 'Cos he's now way down the pecking order behind Terry and Ferdinand (obviously) Jagielka (if he was fit) Upson, Lescott (maybe) even Gary Neville would do a better job at centre back these days. 6. 'Cos he's not good enough. 7. 'Cos even when Capello offered him a way back in when he became manager, the prat refused. I doubt now that Capello would piss on him if he was on fire, never mind give him a game if we ran out of centre backs. Oh, wait.....Did i mention that he wasn't good enough? |
