sharingmatrix is absolutly appaling. It just doesn't work for me, all you get is a ten mins loop, then 'sorry there seems to be another ten minutes to wait'. This is constant for me and I know I'm not the only one.

Trouble is, nobody seems to know what the problem is.

Well, rapidshare just continue to defy logic.

I just got their email about yet another new package released in response to the reaction to this new system. They acknowledge that the system has not been well recieved, and so have created a new account package to try to address this.

The new package is a 30 day account for 99 'rapids' which gives you 10GB storage and 30GB traffic for 30 days. More storage space can be bought if you don't want your files deleted, at 2 rapids for 1GB per month.

This sounds better on the surface, but what does it mean in practice? Well, first thing it means for me is that it looks like they just took another 99 of my 'rapids' away without so much as asking! After having my account automatically upgraded due to download traffic as I have transferred my files elsewhere, I am now down to just 56 rapids left in my account.

For me, this new account may just work, for those with much larger amounts of files stored, it may take some working out whether it will suit.

It just so happens I bought a hotfile premium account today, so I guess I have a month now to decide which to stick with.

It's very good for low users, not so much for heavy users. Which if you think about it is fair.

The original rapidshare account was about £16 for three months. This was equivalent to the 20 rapids a day medium on the previous new one.

The low user on the old new one worked out at about 4 per day.

99 takes 3.3 a day.

In addition you buy 400 rapids for just 4.99 euros.

So if you work within the allocations they have taken about a 12/13 pound cut per quarter (or you save that amount) and THEN give you another month free on top of it.

Wicked. Big Grin

That hurt my head for a short while. For a heavier user - e.g. someone who downloads up to 100Gb per month and stores up to 100GB, the costs work out as follows:

Rapid Pro : 30GB Download & 10GB storage = 99 Rapids
Additional Download Traffic of 70GB = 196 rapids
Additional 90GB of secured storage = 180 rapids.

Total Rapids = 475 rapids = Euro €5.93 = approx £4.94 per month - which doesn't seem too bad.

Personally, I'm not overly concerned with securing my storage. If a file's not been downloaded within 60 days I'm reasonably happy to let it die, and re-upload it if requested. So, I've left the "Keep files forever" option unticked.

I've also unticked the " Automatic RapidPro Extension" and "Automatic Traffic Extension" settings - I'd rather have some control and extend my download limit manually once it exceeds 30GB, and also extent my account manually.

Can someone please explain how the new Rapidshare sysytem works? I had a premium account which expired last month which I was I wasn't going to extend however this morning I wanted to download a file so when I selected the download link. The screen came up telling me my account had expired and to extend it. I couldn't remeber what my access details were so I created a new account and purchased 1000 Rapids.

All this is fair enough but when I continue to select a download link it still tells me to extend my account and I can't find a download file button on Rapidshare.

Please can someone explain in simple terms what I am doing wrong and how I can remedy it? BTW I will not be uploading any files!!

Cheers

When you log into the 'Premium Zone' of your new account, click on the + sign next to 'Account Overview' to show some information. Can you either take & post a screenshot of the 'Account Overview' section (if you do, don't include your Premium Account user number which is in big blue bold text above that section), or post the following info:

Rapids:
RapidPro paid until:
Taffic left:

I suspect that although you've purchased your 1000 Rapids, that next to "RapidPro paid until:" it says 0 or equivalent, and that you need to click "Extend Rapid Pro" to convert 99 rapids into a months worth of downloads...

Hey guys any idea why I had to log-in to RS tonight , when
for as long as I can remember the RS cookie was good enough ?
( I use CCleaner which makes it easy to keep the cookies you want.)

I did make sure I logged in at the encrypted address (thanks Skate for
that) so I dont think I was Phished.
Is it just me or have RS changed the way they operate ?

I just visited the Premium Zone, and as usual was logged in automatically.

I had to log in yesterday and type password, not automatic like it used to be.
