RE: Stargate - Universe. - skully - 16-01-2009 13:28 Update,(according to DS), Justin Louis, David Blue, Brian J. Smith and Jamil Walker Smith have joined the cast of Stargate Universe, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series revolves around a group of soldiers, scientists and civilians who are trapped on an ancient ship in space after their hidden base comes under attack. Louis will play Col. Everett Young, an experienced Stargate team leader, while Blue will star as genius Eli Wallace. Smith will take on the role of Lt. Matthew Scott, a junior member of the team who is forced to become a reluctant leader, while Walker Smith will play temperamental marine Sr. Sgt. Ronald Greer. Robert Carlyle has already come on board to star as the group's leader, Dr. David Rush. This will be the third TV spinoff from the 1994 movie starring Kurt Russell. It is scheduled to debut as a two-hour movie on the Sci-Fi channel later in the year. Here's the imdb pages of the new additions, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0521878/ http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2437382/ http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1668284/ http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0808607/ RE: Stargate - Universe. - Mister Gummidge - 16-01-2009 17:24 Award winning science fiction writer and prolific blogger John Scalzi has signed on as "Creative Consultant", what that actually means I have no idea! Could be a good thing though, as his books are a lot of fun to read and filled with razor sharp dialogue. RE: Stargate - Universe. - *Kal-El* - 16-01-2009 17:27 Am not really a stargate fan but i really hope this new series does well, there seems to be a lack of sci fi series these days so i hope its sucessful . RE: Stargate - Universe. - ranger690 - 16-01-2009 17:29 i like the show a lot got all vids on my pc very cool but a bit of sci fi nut RE: Stargate - Universe. - Ducky - 16-01-2009 17:30 Hey Skully, thanks for all the info on the new show. I for 1 will be loking forward to it. I miss Atlantis already, but hope for 'made for TV' spin off movies like they do with SG1. It's true about the lack of sci-fi, it seems like they're all either coming to an end or being cancelled due to lack of funds. Fingers crossed this one can revive the genre. RE: Stargate - Universe. - *Kal-El* - 16-01-2009 17:37 I just can't work out why there cancelling so many of them, they at least a season or two to blossom. RE: Stargate - Universe. - skully - 16-01-2009 17:41 I think the problems stated with the writers strike, it's not been the same since, lots of shows seem to be getting cut short after either one series or in some cases, are getting cancelled after several episodes...it makes no sense at all! It's not just the writer's strike to blame. American t.v. has always been a very cut-throat industry. The major free to air networks (NBC affiliates, CBS affiliates etc.) and those on basic cable (Fox, WB etc.) have absolutely no public funding whatsoever. Not a penny. Like ITV in this country, they are so far in hock to banks and investors that if a show doesn't pull in an audience in the first few weeks it's zapped from the schedule without mercy, as they can't afford a drop in advertising revenue. The only channels willing to take risks on a show long term, in the hope of building an audience are the pay t.v. channels like HBO or Showtime as they're propped up by subscription fees, pay-per-view sport profits and advertising. That's why things keep getting dropped for "reality" shows, just like they do over here on the ITV network. It seems like more people are willing to watch x factor/American idol or that jungle thingy than quality television. Sucks doesn't it? At least Stargate Universe will be on Sci-Fi Channel(in th U.S.), so people know exactly what they're tuning in for. RE: Stargate - Universe. - skully - 16-01-2009 18:22 Cheers for the info mate, I hate the fact reality tv is taking over the world, these pop idol type shows are eroding society and turning everyone into wannabes....our destruction is nigh....danger will robinson danger! |
