They were out by the 1st round of voting RE: England Fail To Win (Russia Win) 2018 World Cup Bid - MeTarzan - 02-12-2010 17:00 (02-12-2010 16:34 )kalel76 Wrote: Kinda had a feeling we wouldn't have got it, Fifa ain't too keen on england and That BBC programme i think didn't help. My guess is the whole thing was "sown up" weeks - even months - ago, so doubt the Panarama scoop made any difference. RE: England Fail To Win (Russia Win) 2018 World Cup Bid - m100 - 02-12-2010 17:03 Let’s take a moment to pause and mourn the passing of david beckham’s knighthood bid (part one)….. Let’s also spare a thought for sky sports news which now has an eight year calendar for sale on eBay. Also look on the positive side - Many parents can now rest easier at night knowing that their daughters are no longer considering a career as a wag and instead of memorising the phone numbers of the editors of ok, hello, and the news of the world, sharpening their lipsticks, employing max Clifford as their publicist and drawing up plans for their x factor and I’m (was) a ‘celebrity’ get me in there are revising for their gcse’s as they should be. A generation of young footballer’s can now concentrate on the important things - shagging models, mates girlfriends, fighting in nightclubs, alcohol abuse and their enormous … bank accounts instead of being burdened with the weight of the nations expectations of winning the 2018 world cup. And let’s think of the winners Russia, backed by a billionaire, Qatar, backed by billionaire’s, which proves that in the face of all else money talks. And a further thought for the members of the fifa executive at the 2018 world cup - billionaires will obviously provide a better class of hooker rather than Mavis, 42, bored housewife of who know’s where who does the occasional bit on the side. RE: England Fail To Win (Russia Win) 2018 World Cup Bid - TDK2008 - 02-12-2010 17:05 BBC reports that England got only TWO votes. Fuck 'em. Fuck 'em. That's not a very nice thing to say about the BBC RE: England Fail To Win (Russia Win) 2018 World Cup Bid - rickhardo - 02-12-2010 18:41 We should get every media outlet onto FIFA to expose them for the corrupt set of bastards they are, and incidentally I would have suggested the same if we'd won the bid. The whole organisation needs to be changed and the sooner we get rid of Blatter the better. As TDK says we got two votes. Two. And one of them was Geoff Thompson. And don't get me started on Qatar. It's not without risks, the stadia might be ready, but the infrastructure here is a joke, and by all accounts it's even worse in Ukraine. I imagine the Russians will have the same challenges to get everything done on time. As for England's bid, I'm sure any voters who were undecided before today were less than impressed by the bout of crowd trouble in Birmingham last night. And Brazil have had the World Cup before, back in 1950. But it will be the first tournament in South America since Argentina hosted it in 1978. RE: England Fail To Win (Russia Win) 2018 World Cup Bid - Regenerated - 02-12-2010 19:17 Not a big surprise for me England didn't get it. I too suspected there would be a continuing tradition of "first time" hosts. It remains to be seen how much of an atmosphere can be generated in Russia (where the infrastructure is apparently not the best plus it will be a World Cup in cold weather) and Qatar (where football has struggled to take off with regular fans if recent big name international friendlies are anything to go by). |
