She really was awful, but other than that the film was an excellent, operatic tragedy.

One example of miscasting I saw recently was Maria Bello, replacing Rachel Weisz in The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor.

I don't blame her for taking the paycheck at all, but to take an actress more broadly known for her indie and higher-brow movie sensibilities and drop her into an action-comedy (and dye her hair brown) was as jarring as fuck.

The entire cast in the American version of The Italian Job.

I'm sure many will come to mind, but the first and most obvious one for me would have to be Daniel Craig as James Bond. Craig was great in Layer Cake and other things, but he just doesn't fit the part of Bond for me. Maybe I'm just being too stereotypical, but I'm sorry, the obvious candidate for Bond was - and still is - Clive Owen.

Now I think that Daniel Craig is OK as Bond... would accept Clive Owen as well.
But there have been some odd choses, we have had the Scotsman, Irishman and the Australian.

I think that Craig fits the bill as an assassin.
but if you read fleming's novels, bond is actually scottish anyway- so connery wasn't such an odd choice!

You'll have to get me proof of that...
All the evidence that I have gathered suggests the Fleming had Bond as being born in either Switzerland or Germany..

Although the birth-place of Bond has never been established, his heritage was rewritten by Fleming after Connery's casting:

From wikipedia:

James Bond's creator, Ian Fleming, originally doubted the casting of Sean Connery, saying, "He's not what I envisioned of James Bond looks" and "I’m looking for Commander Bond and not an overgrown stunt-man," adding that Connery (muscular, 6' 2", and a Scot) was unrefined. However, Fleming's girlfriend told him Connery had the requisite sexual charisma. Fleming changed his mind after the successful Dr. No premiere; he was so impressed, he created a half-Scottish, half-Swiss heritage for the literary James Bond in the later novels.

I think this would have been a miscast Bond:

yet, he was described as half scottish, even in casino royale & other early bond novels.

It's just been on the radio that Disney are to make a Miss Marple film. Playing the lead will be Jennifer Garner. The mind boggles.

I think this could be good. It's about time Miss Marple had a makeover and I ADORE Jennifer Garner.
