For firefox users, the downloadhelper addon is the easiet thing to use I find. When there's a video on the page the icon will flash and you just click on it and save the video somewhere. Get it here:

How do you embed videos? - Serpent TV - 24-12-2010 17:07

Hi Folks

I have tried to embed a youtube video in a post, but with no success.

I tried the "insert formatted code" option but I think that just displays the code as text...? I've looked in the "Help" section but the only info on embedding HTML seems to be MyCode, which doesn't mention embedding videos.

Maybe I don't get an HTML option because I'm 'new'... Cool

Cheers for any help.

On youtube click on the Embed button which will open a drop down box with highlighted text, Right-click copy the text and then paste the text in a post and that will embed the video

Thanks, so you can just paste the embed code straight into the post? Great it works - very clever!

I have just written an embed code for my own websites, but it doesn't use an iframe so I don't think it will work on here, although it works on Blogger okay (test is here if anyone's interested). But I may look into writing an iframe version if it will work on more blogs and forums...

Thanks (I think)... Tongue

I'm just going to see if any of my new object-based or iframe-based embedded videos work here (for future reference)

IFRAME MPEG-4 VERSION

edit: this video worked but I have removed it to avoid annoying Quicktime plugin prompts!

Okay, thanks for letting me test a few ideas. The mpeg-4 movie works when it's in an iframe but gets cropped when using the object tags directly. Flash works fine inside object tags. I took the controls off the flash movie above to simplify it, but it will probably work with a player bar underneath...

Cheers.

IFRAME MPEG-4 VERSION and OBJECT MPEG-4 give me a message for plugin content. i use opera.

Perhaps a fake identity could be entered, but a correct email address is needed.
3. People sometimes get banned and content deleted.
4. Uploading video files to megaupload seems to work ok.

One interesting thing about embedding youtube videos is that if a video has been "flagged for nudity" on youtube, you can't view that video on youtube without logging into your account, but the flagged video will display fine when embedded in another page!

Yes, that would be Quicktime wanting to install itself in your browser! I've never installed quicktime when prompted by a website and I don't think I ever would, so I'll probably ditch the idea of embedding mpeg-4's. I'm adding them to my websites though, mainly for iPad users.

P.S. Good man for using Opera!

You have replied to a post of mine that was made nearly 2 years ago!

Since them I have embedded videos on the forum with both clipser and dailymotion.
None of these now exist because clipser has folded and dailymotion deleted my account and all recordings a long time ago.

RE: Embedding Vdeos From Tube Sites. - aceman65 - 28-12-2010 21:41

I've only ever embedded one video, and that was for the new Elite Promo competition. I used video bam, as that's what was requested.

Personally, I think they should be used sparingly, as they slow the threads down. And usually download the entire video into the player, whether you watch it or not. Which also ends up adding to your bandwidth limit, if you have one.
